| The barmaid poured us samples of each of the 4 local ales (and Taylor's Landlord) on tap as soon as we showed interest, and all 5 were on good form. A nice touch was the spotlessly clean glasses used for our choices - not a point you might normally notice but it adds to a good drinking experience. This is a well-kept, neat and tidy pub which deserves its obvious popularity. The guvnor was also present, and he told us a little about the other pubs in his group as well as his history in the drinks trade. | I would totally agree with the last reviewer about this pub which was worth the bus ride out of the city centre. Nice pint of beer (Farmers Blonde), comfortable surroundings and a good feel to the place. Spotlessly clean and tidy. Food available and it looks as though they a piano player on occassions. | Stone-built traditional pub in the leafy suburb of Fulwood, about 2 miles west of the city centre. It's an attractive pub and this is enhanced by the impressive Ranmoor Church which towers above it. Inside, it's relatively opened out but not without character, with the feel of separate drinking areas due to some remaining partition walls. As noted it is not difficult to imagine the original layout of the pub. It also has impressive original etched windows and a real fire at the front pictures of old Sheffield and the usually pubby stuff to add character. It's a clean, well-looked after place without being clinical, and seems popular with all ages. The beer selection was good, although it doesn't match that of the Rising Sun up the road. Nevertheless, like most Sheffield pubs local microbreweries are well represented, with Abbeydale and Bradfield plus Timothy Taylor's Landlord. The Bradfield Farmer's Blonde was a good pint as ever. | Cosy, friendly, traditional local virtually next door to Ranmoor Church in the suburb of Fulwood and only a shortish walk away from The Rising Sun. It's a largish open plan interior, much larger inside than you would expect when looking at the pub from front on outside. It's an Enterprise Inns free house, listed in the 2009 GBG, and was serving Bradfield beers and Abbeydale beers, inter alia, on my recent visit. The Bradfield Farmers Ale is a fine malty pint, worth sampling. The pub retains some original features including etched glass - "smoke room"- and - "Tennants Ales" - and a Ranmoor Inn floor mosiac in the entrance and it is clear that this was once a multi roomed pub. | Pretty much the perfect pub. Fantastic setting, friendly staff and locals. great real ales, chilled white wine (a big plus for my wife). The seating is comfy and a nice outside area. Newspapers provided. My current favourite pub. Wiltz - 14 Jul 2008 09:59 |
