...and we arrived at The Bear, which was showing The Rugby. It sported Cask Marque accreditation, and did indeed stock a selection of ales. I started with a pint of what appeared to be a session ale, House Dogge. It was certainly quite snappy, if very slightly cloudy, but OK. I moved on to a clearer, fresher Elderflower Ale. I generally agree with the comments. Yes, it's a hotel bar open to the general public, with decent food, but a convivial place whatever. The building is claimed to be mediaeval, but the interior is quite modernly fitted out. eddybeer - 12 Nov 2016 18:06 |
This is more of a hotel and restaurant than a pub. But it did have an expensive bar for drinking and a large outdoor courtyard towards the rear. It seems to cater for weddings and large functions. 4 ales were available - Brains SA, Oxfordshire Pride of Oxford, Hancocks HB & Sharps Doom Bar. So nothing too adventurous. Probably the poorest of the 3 Cowbridge drinking holes we tried. blue_scrumpy - 7 May 2014 20:36 |

On holiday for a week in the area and friends had raved about this place but sorry to say we found the food was mediocre and service very poor with our guest not receiving a meal until the rest of us had finished. Overall nice place, good atmosphere but sloppy delivery. tilla - 3 Nov 2010 23:46 |
It's almost exactly a year since I was last in The Bear. It's a good, traditional style hotel, with several varied drinking areas, a decent pint, and very acceptable food. The place has a warm, friendly atmosphere. earlydrinker - 24 Apr 2007 19:01 |
