We live very close to the Red Lion. We have used it for years, both before the current landlord was in place and since he arrived last year. We have friends coming to say with us. Accordingly, 6 weeks before we wanted to eat at the Red Lion we booked a specific table (the table was in a quiet part of the restaurant because we have a 5 year old and, of course, because we wanted to be able to talk to our friends). Today, 1 week before we were due to eat at the Red Lion, we checked the booking and were told we were to be moved to a table in the main pub because, and I quote, "people who come ever year want that table". Now, leaving aside the compliance with the licensing laws, the attitude of Mr J Groves (the licensee) is quite amazing. He was quite clear that accommodating more people (he mentioned 18 but goodness knows how they would fit) is much more important to him that honouring an existing contractual booking and/or making sure that a 5 year old is actually able to accompany his parents and their friends on a night out. My message is clear; avoid the Red Lion if you want the arrangements you have made honoured. It really is not that good and it is not worth the effort. lawyer237 - 6 Sep 2015 17:04 |
Decent pint of ESB and a pleasant pub in the favoured East side of Fernhurst. I'd suggest spell-checking when writing the menu-board out as I'm sure the food is lovely - it really does matter. But it's the beer that wins through in the end and the smiley service should ensure this village pub's survival in these tough times. pkrp - 17 Aug 2014 21:14 |
Wow Much improved pub--the brass tack and flock carpet Has gone!!now white walls black leather chairs The food is much better too!! Needs hand made piping fresh hot chips al dente veg Not the boiled stuff or the soggy salads with dressing The puds are now great and the artisan ice cream Seriously Real Handmade in pulborough is the nicest in england If you could loose the 2 stroppy waitresses Then you will be the happy busy pub that Fernhurst deserves Boyhome - 5 Jun 2014 10:10 |
New owners but still fillers tied. Luckily the old staff have remained and it remains a nice locals and visitors country pub. Beers well kept and food reasonable. Still worth a visit d.franks - 19 Dec 2013 12:32 |
