A chain pub (Marstons I think) which at least retains a few rooms and sections as opposed to being all open plan. Two ales on - Pedigree and Black Sheep. Tried the Black Sheep which was dire. Left half of it. anonymous - 27 Oct 2011 15:33 |
Canalside pub failing to make the most of its attractive location. With a few tubs of flowers, a smarter restaurant and a more imaginitive selection of beers, this could be a real 'destination' venue. Didn't sample the food this time, but the 'two meals for a tenner' offer at lunchtimes and before 7.30pm was tempting. rentaquote - 26 Apr 2011 23:33 |
The outside has been repainted ,the interior is clean and there is now a clear focus on food in this pub. There are real ales available, but a dull selection including GK IPA ,Bomber and Adnams Bitter. The long dining area looks over the Big Lock from a first floor vantage, and this was the only bar area open at lunchtime, although I believe there is a ground floor bar leading to the canalside.Food reasonable and a respectable, friendly pub in a town sadly lacking decent pubs. Quality pub with real ales on draught that taste good. The beers that were on were all from down south. My question is:-Why don't they have any northern ales on..? -Like 'Joseph Holt'- a quality beer from Manchester that isn't a million miles away... mikesheen - 28 Feb 2009 23:39 |
