user reviews of the Crown Inn, Ilminster

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

A terraced pub, half modern stone block and half black timber and white.

The interior had a pool room, in green and white and a open plan bar/lounge with cream walls, black panel and fake beams, with a food area. There were a number of old photographs and other memorabilia on the walls and dotted about, along with a TV. Service was fine, it was quiet with a small mixed clientele.

Beer; tap stuff and Butcombe bitter on handpull, which was OK

A mix of modern and traditional look, that sadly wasn't really my kind of thing and a lack of beer choice means i wouldnt go out of my way.

Back in Ilminster for a few more days so stayed on late at work just to visit the Crown - I certainly won't bother again. A boringly nondescript interior poorly furnished and a mediocre welcome. Worse yet, only one ale on. Now, when Butcombe Bitter is well kept it is a quality ale but when it is poorly kept - as here - it is bloody awful. Please, please clean your pipes!!

I'm working in Ilminster for a couple of days and so far this pub (and the Bell a few doors along) doesn't appear to open lunchtimes - and, let's face it, you wouldn't come to Ilminster for its nightlife!

I have chsen this pub partly for sentimental value, as they were kind enough to serve me first pint...Pool table, jukebox, darts, quiz night. Food in the lounge bar, plenty of local colour in the public bar. I lost many an evening there aged 18/19, and have made regular visits since.
