walked in and walked out last Monday, had no real ale on and no customers!what a shame as when I came here 12 years back this was one of the best pubs in Newport with 3/4 beers on! hoppyal - 12 Sep 2016 10:14 |
Another nice island pub. But sadly it lacked a real ale choice - only 6X was available. But the interior is very nice. Being near the old Newport rail station, it has lots of railway memorabilia. There is a main bar and a quieter side room. There is also a shaded outdoor area at the side. The barmaid was friendly enough. blue_scrumpy - 23 Aug 2015 13:15 |
Interesting pub with fascinating railway memorabilia. Pleasant outdoor drinking area at the back, plus tables outside. Friendly staff. Lacklustre in terms of real ale, though - only two on offer: neither particularly well kept. chapelchap - 20 Sep 2010 19:37 |
Splendid little boozer in a fairly dire town (a pity all the buses have to go through Newport!) Staff and locals very welcoming - beer excellent. A must for rail cranks - it has a detailed map of the old Isle of Wight railway network in a picture frame. JBGatelad - 9 Aug 2008 12:33 |
The new owners, Duncan and Kate Scott, have done a great job in turning this pub round in a comparitively short time. Up until two months ago, under the previous regime, you would have thought twice before setting foot in the place. The unsavoury characters who you would cross the road to avoid if you saw them in the street are gone and the displaced locals are making a welcome return. Now the atmosphere is friendly, a excellent range of guest real ales on offer and a new, extensive food menu to satisfy all appetites. All the food is home-made by Duncan and Kate and is not only superb (even Gordon Ramsay would be hard pushed to find fault!) but reasonably priced as well. In short, The Railway Medina Tavern is back to what it should be......a proper English Pub. Quarkman - 20 Nov 2006 17:24 |
