Pretty average considering the potential. Only two ales on; the Bass being pretty manky, the White Lion Ale decidedly better. The food menu was rather patchy but the food actually rather good. This is a far from awful pub, but if you have (alcohol free) transport, pop a couple of miles up the road to the Brotherswater for a better experience. Igwinder - 16 Dec 2013 16:47 |
Had their own brew on when I visited as part of the Coast to Coast. It was a good pint and not too strong, just the ticket. Food was good, suet pudding, and plentiful and whilst service wasn't effusive it was friendly and efficient. Howellsey - 24 Jun 2010 21:56 |
Visited the White Lion this week and found it to be a very attractive looking pub. It may be an Enterprise property but it didn't feel like part of this big chain and as such, deserves credit. The hand pulled ales on offer were Tirril's 'Wainwright knew my Father' and one from the Jennings brewery. The beer was pleasant enough, the pub was warm and inviting and it boasts a fantastic view of Place Fell from a rear window. A pub that is pleasing on the eye, yes it can improve, but so much better than the Hotel nearby. SouthYorkshireman - 27 May 2009 23:41 |
I ate a late lunch here on a quiet Sunday afternoon. Although the food was not particularly attractively presented, it was nicely cooked and modestly priced for the Park. The beer, Tirril and Cumberland Ale, seemed to be in good condition. It is not a great pub but it is now worth visiting. drtimthornton - 16 Jul 2008 11:35 |
This pub (an Enterprise Inn) has definitely improved. Very welcoming staff, pleasant en suite rooms for Coast to Coast people and satisfying bar food. Dried all our gear and boots for us without a murmur. Only disappointment was the beer - a bland obscure bitter which I guess is bought in cheap. Gets very busy of an evening.
