Largest selection of ales encountered on the island though all mainstream (as well as a couple of local brews). Found it more of a contrived place - lacks character and feels more like a shop conversion bar.

Recently went back to this pub after 5-6 years away.

It is a bit cleaner in there now and still a good range of beers, however the staff, all very young had little or no idea how to pull a pint.

It did detract on what used to be the best pint on the island. Also no beer festival anymore. Why not?

Reviews below hold good as of this post. Sign outside says it won some CAMRA award in 2012. In addition to the beer comments as aforesaid, has covered smokers' area and a large tree-surrounded back garden with benches and tables.

Mainly middle aged / elderly men drinking early evening. Hard to say offhand who its regular clientele is.

Given the recent sanitisation of many (most?) pubs in Douglas, this Castletown pub could well rank now as a leading contender for best pub on the Island, at least if you attach as much if not more importance to what you're drinking as to the place you're drinking in.

Incidentally, beers very reasonably priced, both by Island and London standards - one or two e.g. Old[e] Peculiar - getting on for half the latter.

Just a short walk from town and next to the station for the steam railway.
Superb selection of around 10 ales on offer,local and national,and unlike some other pubs with high beer turnover they also seemed to have got the quality as well as quantity right as all the beers we tried were cool and well kept.
Possibly my pub of the week.

Really good - excellent Manx beer from Okell's, and really good value and tasty fish and chips - to be recommended..
