user reviews of Bungalows and Bears, Sheffield

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Went downhill about three years ago. Arsey manager would not exchange three clearly substandard pints of Budvar, refusing to taste even. He relented eventually but only cos we know our rights but made it seem like he was doing us a favour. Shame cos it is a good bar. Old House down the road is the choice these days.

I like this bar. First impressions make you think 'pretentious hole' but once you actually get past the fact that most of the male patrons think they're a Russell Brand-imitating reinvention of indie cool, there's actually plenty to enjoy. Good beer on offer and a nice range of lagers on draught. Could be terrible - but it just isn't.

This is a fine example of how it is still possible to open up a modern bar but retain the characteristics of a proper pub. Comfortable seating area all round, good atmosphere during the day - a wide selection of premium lagers on draught, Abbeydale Moonshine and sometimes 1 other ale and best of all, Schneider Weisse on tap. Lovely.

This bar has now been renamed Bungalows & Bears and has been completely revamped. From a towny pub that was just a part of the usual pub crawl around town, it is now a decent bar.

It makes a big effort to be seen as a part of the cool Sheffield music scene (the Arctic Monkeys, Long Blondes and others all drink here) and so it can feel a little pretentious. On the whole though it's pretty relaxed if a little pricey.

They are clearly working hard to keep it free of undesirables as entry on a Friday or Saturday is only usually for "regulars". Anyone can have a regulars card, but they have to be collected at a quiet time. I suppose it puts off the worst troublemakers.
