This pub was the worst experience in 30 years both in atmosphere and food. Looked good from the outside - we arrived at 1.30 pm and ordered lunch there earlier this week. The pub was empty, no music, freezing cold, fire almost out, barmaid on the phone. Ordered three simple meals - pasta with basil and parmesan, curry, sandwich. The penne pasta looked weeks old, was tasteless and stewed, no fresh basil, no parmesan, side salad had been cut it appeared days before, dry cucumber and over ripe toms all liberally covered with a gloopy dressing and with an old bit of bread - 13. Sandwich was worse than one you get in a garage - about 7 from memory. Curry looked nice but we noticed our friend left most of it - about 13 from memory. Toilets dirty, loo seat detached in ladies, dirt round sink. Perhaps when there is a race meet or golf event on sthe owners bother with this place but certainly not on a January lunchtime. We felt totally ripped off and although the barmaid was very nice, cleared up around us once we had ordered so maybe it had been busy just before we got there, but probably not paid nearly enough to care about our meals or our overall experience. The food truly over-priced microwave rubbish which I personally would not feed to my dog. We love a good English pub and travel a lot for our jobs so probably eat 2-3 times a week all over the country and there are some stonking good pubs and lots of great pub food out there. We don't expect something for nothing but the menu here is expensive and extensive and our food terrible - honestly completely deadly... drive past!! Dabliss - 12 Jan 2011 17:24 |
On visiting this pub with family from london, Canada and just down the road from this pub, we had a very unpleasent experience, we waited for over an hour from walking into the pub to reciving our food, and there was only three or four other people in there, it was cold and they hadent put the lights on, all this aside the manager upset a great deal after a couple walked in sat down looked at the menu then got up and left after this the managger came over and said to the whole table that our two children in the party had been the cause of them leaving as they were being to noisy, they were laughing, but they hadnt left their seats and had been waiting for 40 mins this far for their food. So in conclusion the food was good (ignoring the bad taste in our mouths we had) the service was poor, the atmosphere bad, and very much not child friendly. anonymous - 21 May 2007 15:26 |
Can be overcrowded on race days (it's nextdoor to Bath racecourse.) Good food. Plenty of parking. Beer garden. Families welcome. Jane - 25 Aug 2004 22:22 |
