Nicely decorated interior, like many of the Nicholson establishments are. Sadly, that's where my appreciation ended. The pint I sampled was of poor quality. I left without finishing it. realalerules1983 - 12 May 2014 10:56 |
Was in this week for a couple of pints - what a stunning makeover this place has had! I've never seen the Conan looking so good! Really good selection of real ales on, my favourite was "Dark Island" from Orkney. The usual suspects were there (Cally 80 and Deuchars) and a few rarer ones including Brew Dog "Punk IPA". For the top shelf lovers there was a healthy selection of malts taking up half the bar. Didn't eat on this visit, but all the food coming out looked really good - and edible!!! Bar staff were looking really crisp in shiny new uniforms - a welcome change to the random t-shirts of old! I bet the owners are kicking themselves that they didn't spend some money and TLC on this place before the summer - would have been packed every day... Looking forward to going back in again to see what other ales they'll have on... Shark_E - 15 Oct 2010 18:12 |
1.89 a pint for the deuchars ipa/marstons epa and a warm welcome from a cute barmaid is a good start from this mitchells & butlers affair. The place was sadly empty though even though it was 11pm on a bank holiday monday! 6/10 fat_beer_badger - 11 Jul 2010 23:24 |
When I visit Edinburgh I try to get around a few pubs in this area. Over the years this has been a decent pub with reasonable beer and pub food. No longer. This place is going downhill fast. Last week Friends and myself arrived for a meal around 3pm. There were several free tables but they were all uncleared. We cleared one ourselves and sat down. After several minutes we managed to ask a waitress to please wipe the table. Only to be told "you will need to wait". At that point we should have got up and left but we stayed. Regretfully. The food was very poor. Frozen chips undercooked and green. The selection of "todays seasonal veg" was half a plate of brocalli. Suet Ale pie needed a pickaxe to get into it. We waited almost 5 minutes standing at the bar trying to pay the bill whilst the manager and the barmaid chated to each other. As for the beer, my sons Deuchars was flat and my cider had a head on it bigger than Alec Salmond. Avoid this place. droggs - 3 May 2010 21:19 |
