On my return to Macclesfield after a 9 year hiatus, this was the first of 8 pubs I tried in the town. It was the one closest to the town centre. Apart from the barmaid, it was all blokes. Some of the language was somewhat suspect. A couple were playing either dominoes or cards in one corner. The ale range was disappointing - Bass & Saddle Tank. I was encouraged by advertisements for some kind of cider festival. Alas the cider on offer was Somersby's. Disappointing. blue_scrumpy - 19 Aug 2018 12:56 |
A good traditional pub. It has a strongly local feel and has definite locals corners, but that's no bad thing. Decently served beer and generally pleasant. Even better when the open fire it lit. Can get very busy but that perhaps reflects how good it is. andyshire - 5 Jun 2012 22:43 |
Wow!! Called in today. Everything you could wish for in a pub. Cosy feel, happy clientele (and Macc were relegated today), Helpful bar staff, books or papers to read. A cracking pint or two in this case! Both me & the missus loved it. I wished this oub was round the corner from me. We live quite a few miles from this place but it shall always be on my calling card in future, Highly recommended. Would have scored a 10 but will reserve judgement in case I dropped in a a good day! Eleven of us called in on a sunny Friday afternoon and sat in the beer garden drinking great pints of Black Sheep brought out to us by a smiling barmaid (who incidentally several of us would like to marry!). Heaven! Great pub. BIMBob - 15 Sep 2009 09:27 |
Great quirky little pub, always a good choice of ales, gets busy at night time, big roaring fireplace and comfy seats. Free pool aswell. This is probably the best pub I've visited in Macc, always lovely ladies behind the bar too, which is nice. TT Landlord on tap last visit. ToxtethOGrady - 22 Feb 2009 21:06 |
