The last several times I have visited Lancaster over the last 18 months or so the Green Ayre has been closed and boarded up with the message that it is "Closed for refurbishment". When I passed by a few weeks ago it was up for sale as one of Wetherspoons' recent disposals. Stamfordian - 28 Jun 2018 20:13 |
Called in for a quick pint while waiting for a bus, the bus station being very close. If anything, the place seemed rather better than I remembered it, and is certainly an above-average Wetherspoons. I had a pint of Hawkshead Drystone Stout which was in very good condition and a bargain at £2.15. At 18.00 there were several tables of women enjoying a drink after shopping, which was good to see. Nice enough Wetherspoon's with the usual cheap beer and formulaic layout. On Tuesday evening most of the handpump clips were labelled "coming soon" as a beer festival was starting the next day. On the Wednesday the beer I really fancied - a 6.0% ABR Imperial Russian Stout - was still not on. I did have a decent pint each time, which would suggest that the pub is one of the better W'spoon's for beer quality. Stamfordian - 7 Oct 2011 12:23 |
very nice clean and tidy and airy Lloyds bar with a couple of extra ales added to the normal option of abbot or abbot, the pint of lancaster blonde(2.05)was very nice and the barmaid was friendly, other Lloyds could take a leaf out this places book!7/10 fat_beer_badger - 4 Sep 2011 19:08 |
This is a Lloyd's Bar style Wetherspoon's, which means dimmer 'club' style lighting and music playing at moderate to loud volume. Despite this, I thought it not bad. There were some decent ales and ciders on hand-pump (eg Addlestones Cloudy Cider) and on two separate visits last week all the drinks I had tasted very good. Staff were friendly and helpful. beermann - 30 Aug 2011 19:28 |
