This is a Greene King pub close to South Benfleet station. It was packed on our early Saturday evening visit with some rowdy Essex locals, both young and old. Some may have found the atmosphere a little intimidating. Football was showing on the TV. There were plenty of bar staff. But getting served was a challenge. Greene King IPA is a regular beer. Guests were Morland Old Speckled Hen, Sharp's Doom Bar & Wadworth Swordfish. There's a nice garden area just over the opposite side of the car park, which is pay and display. blue_scrumpy - 30 Sep 2018 11:06 |
My first visit here to coincide with a football match on Canvey. Decent Barras managed pub, a short walk from Benfleet station. 4 pumps dispensing, GK IPA, Adnams Broadside (which was a decent pint), Courage Best and 1 other ale. Friendly bar staff with quick service, nice enough pub with well kept beers. lezford - 21 Nov 2013 13:19 |

A nice-looking old pub (the building is partly 15th century apparently) with about 4 or 5 hand pump ales available when I visited. I opted for Adnam's Broadside, which proved very good. My only complaint was that no food was available after 9:00 pm (which was shortly before I arrived). I know this is a common policy but it seems crazy to me when people are starving hungry and want to order food not to be a bit more flexible with the hours rather than operating a strict cut-off at 9:00. If restaurants can stay open until 11:00 or midnight, why not pubs? beermann - 27 Jun 2010 13:58 |
Given the size of the pub the bar area is too small; bar manageress not the friendliest either. Outside garden area is big but plagued with insects. Putting that all aside, it is a good pub with decent range of drinks and never seen any trouble there. Is most expensive of the three in Benfleet which might explain my last observation.
