I really struggled to find this branch of Wetherspoon's. It's located in a shopping centre, next to Chinatown. I think I managed a full tour of the outside of the building, before eventually finding it. The interior is a typical open-plan rectangle. It was very busy, with few spare tables on a Tuesday night. It was even more difficult to find a table without dirty plates and glasses. The ale and cider choice was however better than I'd expected - Greene King Abbot & Ruddles Best, Sharp's Doom Bar, Tyne Bank Silver Dollar, Brains Bread of Heaven, Otter Bright, Weston's Old Rosie & Thistly Cross Whisky Cask. My pint of Thistly Cross went down quite nicely. blue_scrumpy - 6 Mar 2019 20:24 |
Pretty good as 'Spoons go. Reasonable selection of beers, and very good breakfast. Service in this one not quite as bad as they usually are (maybe 'cos it wasn't full of the baying hordes). davercox - 23 Jun 2014 08:00 |
Revisited this pub on Sunday 14th Nov, it was quite busy but had plenty of staff on. My daughter and I had a burger and a drink each, we both wanted the Gourmet Burger but were told they were off, the second pub we'd been to that night that had sold out of burgers, we could however have a normal burger, so beginning to get desperate we opted for that! The pint I had, Big Lamp Keelman Brown, was crackin' so no complaints there. I was, however REALLY, pissed off at the service I received, I joined a queue at the bar behind a couple, but the staff ignored us and kept serving people who just approached the bar and shouted their orders. The staff were aware of us and evetually came to our end of the bar, and asked me what I wanted, I told them to serve the couple first as they just wanted drinks and they were before me anyway, they got their drinks and then I was ignored again, and they went back to the baying throng that had approached the bar again! Not the best pub in the area, and definetely not the best service! budvar_1 - 17 Nov 2010 11:37 |
This is effectively a shop that sells beer. Slow service, no guest ales on, only GK IPA and Pedigree. Why do people go here when there's loads of great pubs within a 5 minute walk. Can't recommend it unless you're totally devoid of imagination. ROBCamra - 19 Jan 2009 16:07 |
A typical Lloyds No1 bar, a bit dark inside large screen tvs above the bar, it was busy on my visit, on a Wednesday afternoon, most of the tables inside were for two, so my family (5 of us) moved outside to have our lunch. This was the usual JDW fair, nothing special. Only had 3 handpumps, which was a bit disappointing, two normal JDW beers and only one guest. budvar_1 - 16 Oct 2008 00:24 |
