Impressive Nicholsons Pub - but they do need to learn that less is more! Like the Haymarket, a quite overwhelming array of pumps greets on arrival. Lia Fail was in very good condition - so no complaints. A slightly more chainy feel than the impressive boozer deserves. Visit blogged at http://bit.ly/2DFiNcF Mappiman - 26 Jan 2018 14:34 |
"the barmaid discussed problems with the coffee machine" - what did the coffee machine have to say for itself ?! Martinsh - 30 Jul 2015 23:24 |
Took quite a while to get served in here, as the barmaid discussed problems with the coffee machine. They did apologise quite profusely when they realised I was waiting. The ale selection was Deuchars, Edinburgh Castle, Dark Island & Landlord. Has the feel of an Irish bar. The smaller room at the back appeared a little more cosy. On the Royal Mile, it sees plenty of tourists. blue_scrumpy - 30 Jul 2015 21:50 |
Nicholson's pub so the building has some character. Handpulls on sale last night were Deuchars IPA, Everards Xingu Gold, Butcombe's Adam Henson's Rare Breed, Amarillo from Artisan Craft Beers (Evan Evans) and (my choice) Stewarts 80' which was good enough but rather sweet for my taste. Standing room only so we had one and moved on as many others seemed to be doing. Not a bad introduction to pubs in Edinburgh although I am sure there are better (and probably much worse)... paul_d102 - 3 Aug 2014 20:41 |
This is a lovely old pub full of character. Nice pint of Deuchars IPA. I think there were two other cask beers on sale but I can't remember their names. They also sell food, not cheap but a reasonably varied menu. I didn't try the food on my recent visit. I would definitely visit this pub again if I was in Edinburgh. Bowton_Lad - 24 Jan 2014 15:49 |
