Four of us from the States were looking for a good British pub, with good food and good beer and cider. This one fit the bill. Good pub food, courteous and efficient wait staff, and they even were willing to take special orders for our food. We'll come back.

Signs of improvement here, it does have potential. I've been impressed by their ale selections recently and the fact that the badges now seem to always be the right way round!

Potentially nice pub in many ways. Sadly ruined by the staff. Best to avoid.

Nice small pub, only been here mid week so it hasn't been overly busy. No problems with service at all.

Like Strongers, I can imagine this small Sam Smith's pub becoming uncomfortably crowded with the presence of relatively few people. There's a bit of seating - stools mainly, but most drinkers were standing.

The OBB was decent enough, and my pint was topped up without fuss when I asked. Still a bland beer however.

We planned on eating, but were told there was no food Friday evenings.

Reviews by BITE users:

This place would be great if it were not for two things.

a) It doesn't do propper beer. Only electrically pumped stuff which is really not good.
b) Surely a pub in this part of town should stay open until 12 on a Saturday. What happened to late licensing?

Fix these two things and you have one of the best pubs in London.

Decent pub, two pound odd a pint, just off Oxford St.... what more do you want ?
This was the starting point of our xmas crawl, interesting stained glass windows and quick service, I will be back.

Funny place, had never been there before and from the outside it looks closed which may explain why there were only 3 other people in there lunchtime on Sunday 100 metres from Oxford St. Other than that very nice though, as everyone has mentioned - the stained glass windows of heroic characters from life are very impressive, but there was certainly a slightly depressing feel to the place - just quite dull and sad....dont know what - but the windows are nice. Not a big beer range - but cheap! Two pints of Alpine Lager was 4.70!

Had a crawl around a few pubs in the area yesterday 22/12/2010 and this was the best pub of the afternoon. We felt very welcome, pub was warm with a good atmosphere. It was very busy but got served quickly by lovely bar maid, (She did a very good xmas tree on the top of my Guinness) stayed for more than the one pint we were going to have. While you're in Rathbone St try the Newman Arms 100 yards down the road... we also had an extra pint in there too.

Single roomed (L shaped room though pub at the top end of Rathbone St. The hour I spent in here was very comfortable and I could imagine it being very cosy in the winter time. I'd return here without question - better than many of the other pubs in the area.

This is a small one-room pub with a comfortable feel about it. The only problem was that the tables on the right as you walk in were reserved for a private party, and the only other two tables were occupied - so nowhere comfortable to sit, and thus ended up perched on a stool. This was one of those things of course, and would certainly not put me off returning. The real ales they had on were Old Speckled Hen; GKIPA; Abbot Ale; and Flankers Tackle. So, a Greene King pub then. The service was friendly and beer OK (OSH at 3 a pint) so no complaints from me. No food at lunchtime, but I would be happy to pop in again for a pint.

3 other people in there on Sunday afternoon, so pretty empty and silent - barmaid barely looked up from her phone/magazine the whole time. Much prefer other SamSmiths "The Champion" further along the way.

Not bad. The range of ale was limited - being a Sam Smiths establishment that's all that was available, but it was good nevertheless. The place was busy and loud (visited during the evening). Relatively small corner pub but quite spacious inside. Nice ceiling, too!! Nothing fancy - a straight forward boozer which is what I like.

Called in here yesterday as part of our Christmas crawl of 6 pubs in the area, this was by far the worst. Not impressed by anything. seemed to be an extension of the Royal Mail Canteen. Barmaid totally focussed on her newspaper. I won't be back.

Has closed down which is a pity as it was a really good music venue.

I don't know if there has been a change of management/ownership of this bar but there hasn't been any beers on draught for the last 3 months at least and very little choice of bottled beers. Seems this place is being run as a wine/cocktail bar, the music is the only thing worth coming here for because its certainly not the beer.
7 Oct 2010 15:31
Sadly draught is just Beck's Vier and Mortlake Bud now. Some good bands on.
