Lovly little pub and nice views or the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal.
Play area for the kids and the staff are all very helpful.
I Reccomend the pilot inn any time!

Since my last posting on here, vast improvements have been made at the Pilot. It's changed hands, and the new owners have improved the menu greatly. We now love to eat at the Pilot. The beer is good too and they have a couple of decent ales on tap.
It's great to see that someone's finally making the most of this pub's wonderful location. Full marks!

I have been eating at The Pilot Inn on and off for along time and had a snack meal along with my son at the weekend. The food was served quickly and was very good. The prices were good also.
The garden now has a new play area and the staff were friendly.
Pleasant changes have been made since I last ate there.

We have visted this pub twice in the last week, the first time by chance on New Year's Day and the second to bring a group of friends. We could not have been made more welcome and the food was superb. We were told the current owners are relatively new and the staff certainly made every effort to make us feel at home. We sat in the conservatory, still prettily trimmed for Christmas, and watched the ice patches getting smaller on the canal. I hope previous reviews will not put anyone off trying it, although if it gets too popular there might not be room for us next time.... I'd hate for that to happen!

A lovely summer pub for the family (although the play equipment could do with updating/expanding). Sadly lacking in the winter months - especially in the very cold, conservatory. Food is adequate but nothing exceptional.

This has the potential to one of the nicest pubs in the UK - no kidding. Fabulous location, great building. Unfortunately it's shabby and unkempt and has service to match. The tables out front were cluttered with empty glasses and rubbish, there are dead plants in tubs, the blackboards were days out of date, old cigarette ends are everywhere and look like they are never cleared up. The garden and grounds need a good sorting out. The staff are not very engaging and are seen standing around talking to each other instead of clearing tables and welcoming guests, there's no excuse for this, if they aren't interested in hospitality then get out of the business. If I'm paying nearly 3 a pint I want my added value: a smile, a welcome, clear tables, clean and tidy environment. I don't want to sit on a creaky old picnic table that hasn't seen woodstain in ten years. With such a jaded look to the fabric of the building and sloppy attitude of staff it makes me wonder about the cleanliness of the kitchen and cellar. The staff needs a wake up call and whoever owns this place needs to realise how much more of a business they could have if they put some simple management techniques in here. It really wouldn't cost much to get this place looking fantastic and some discipline and good housekeeping would make it the business it deserves to be.

With a fantastic location on the canal, this pub is a wonderful opportunity for a talented publican to make it something REALLY special. Sadly at present (Summer 2007) it is bland and tatty, the menu grossly overpriced and dull, and the food itself highly average. What a wasted opportunity publican! Go here for a pint on the canalside, but please DON'T go here to eat!
