A decent pub with a large seating area outside. Worth a visit.

Near the canal on the northern outskirts of Oxford, not far from Port Meadow and several good walks, but a bit tucked away if arriving by road. The interior designers have made one room look like a library - is this the "Oxford look"? Reasonable beer and food - nothing awful but not exceptional either.

Busy on a Wednesday night, which knocked the service level somewhat, but a pint of Hooky Gold went down well and the amiable antics of a Jack Russell out front took the attention away from the Oxford-Bicester Line trains bombing along the track a mere 100 yards or so away.

Despite being despoiled by the mitts of Greene King, this is a good alternative to the nearby Trout and you won't see any Hackett shirts. The menu is pub grub and unpretentious and while the ale selection won't set the world on fire, the location near to the Oxford canal is superb.

went to this pub on 8th May in the evening. Service with a smile [not] had a pint of Hardy Hanson's bitter which i did not enjoy. Was going to order an evening meal but felt uncomfortable so decided not to. The prices were a bit dear for pub food too.
It's an old pub with old furniture and a full wall covered with old books in the restaurant area.
Can say i would give it a miss if I'm ever in the area again

I was greeted with a welcoming and friendly atmosphere when I went here recently. There's a decent amount of room and a good choice (including several vegetarian options) of reasonably priced food from the bar menu. The beers were all all Green King which I didn't drink, so I can't comment on the quality of the beer other than to say I've never had a good pint from Green King and that's why I didn't have any beer here. I didn't see any real cider either. But they do a good black current and soda.
One of the rooms of the pub features a wall completely covered with book shelves, which may for entertaining reading!
I'll certainly come back again, but I'd be much happier if they'd put the Bateman's back on that they had in 2005 when the last review of this pub was written.

Nice pub with an ajoining restaurant three real ales on tried the Batemans which was very good. Didn't try the food but the menu looked good. Nice stop off when walking down the Oxford canal.
