First time visit on Saturday for the rugby. Nicely busy with a good atmosphere. Service was generally good although not exactly over friendly in places and the burger was one of the nicest that i have ever had. Will definitely mark it down as a place to go to watch the rugby again.

Beware, I had my bag stolen here by a right professional. Be discreet when keying in card pin and keep your eye on your bag!

Characterless pub. before the refurb there were at least interesting features (pac-man tables, bar billiards etc). Now it is just like any other gastro-pub with the exception that it is completely devoid of character or charm. No idea what the food was like, but bitterly disappointed that so much money has been spent to produce such a soul-less venue. 0.

After the refurb we had high hopes for this pub. And it certainly looked the part from outside. The welcome was friendly, the table clean, but then it all fell apart.
First off it took ages for someone to come and take our drinks order, even though they had seated us, so knew we were there.
Next, we ordered food. Or so we thought. Next thing the waitress was back. "I am just checking I got your order right". We gave it again. Something in what she said next made us realise she had not actually placed it in the first place. Next we saw her go process the order. 45 minutes later we were still waiting so spoke with the bar manager. During this time the people next to us got up and walked out. Eventually (almost past hunger-o'clock) the food arrived. It wasn't bad - wasn't amazing.
So, a facelift may have improved the look, but the service hasn't got any better. Not as rude as under previous management, but now it's just shoddy.
Will not be back.

Shut.

Not bad - good for watching football when everywhere else is packed out.
If you want to watch the football in a place with atmosphere, go here. It could be really good if they got in some better beers.
Only been once and it was footie night on Sky--packed but weird disjointed ambience like everyone a football island on their own. There was a very dodgy smell [not the punters] like 'off' [as opposed to stale] beer which as many say the Thai food is worth the jaunt - put me off eating there. Would have to try another time when my stomach is stronger.
This is a wonderful pub i go here every friday night the bar staff are fantastic in particular Sky me and my mates always look forward to the fantastic atmosphere and the great drinks
I used to love this pub ten years ago, but it seems to have changed in character. It still looks the same, but just doesn't feel right now.
Had an enjoyable few hours and the host , Chris , was very friendly and accomodating. Even when we mentioned we were only in Clapham for the evening and wanted to try several local bars he helped us finding where we wanted to go to the point of ringing one pub for directions. It has a lovely roof terrace which will soon be heated (unfortunatley not soon enough for us as we visited on a freezing afternoon in November). at the moment Chris only has Bombardier on tap however tried other ales only to find that they weren't selling. certainly worth a visit if your'e in the area.
Feels kind of dirty. Sticky tables and decor from the 70s (and not in a good way). Food pretty substandard. Randomly playing hardcore house music regardless of time/mood! Beer ok. Think you would already have to be pretty drunk before entering to enjoy an evening here.
I wouldn't say this place is crap but it's nothing to shout about either. It's fine, just... unremarkable.
This is a very, very old pub featuring in old maps of Clapham. But then it was called the "Cock Inn". The blasted owners renamed it in the 70s and we lost a bit of history - and a wonderful pub name! Really horrible now.
"well kept lagers and Bombadier" mmmm
Crap place with rubbish staff.
What a good pub ,we had a fantastic evening .every was excellant .well kept lagers.Bombadier on draught.Music at the right level .New manager Chris was a good laugh and his staff were very professional.Definately a pub I'm going to make several visits to.
What happened to this place ? Used to be the pick of Clapham's pubs with a good crowd.. now its a hole and I wouldn't go there even if was to meet Kate Moss on a date... the crowd that use to reside here has moved down to the Tim Bobbin... if you're a smoker don't bring your cigarettes as you can just breath in the smoke filled air and smoke about a packet in 15 minutes...
Used to think it was a nice spot, but the bar seems to support old drunk partrons who drink by themselfves, then go round annoying groups who are just there to have a drink and a chat. A place to be avoided, unless you are drinking by yourself.
Hadn't been in here for ages before last Bank Holiday weekend (Sunday). Used to really like this place but it was a bit shite to say the least. Bar staff were nice but place was full of new to London twentysummuts, many of whom heavily into toilet coke snorting. Bit naff and closed at 10.30pm on a Sunday on a Bank Holiday in this day and age! Food looked half decent but didn't try it.
Wasn't a bad place until one drunken patron tried to start a fight with a group of people minding their own business. As the patron was a "friend of the bar" all 15 paying (and mostly sober) customers who tried to calm him down were kicked out. Not a good way to advertise your pub. Treatment like this means that none of us will be returning! Absolutely disgusting!
Not a bad pub relaxed atmosphere good for a saturday afternoon beer only problem is the idiots you sometimes have to stomach
Nothing special. OK for a lounge around in!
Aww the frog its a 'tradition' bless it, you can tell how old it is by the sofas! Love the quiz on a tuesday. Thai food is great and yes in the summer the roof is very useful....you cant really knock the frog;what you see is what you get. (I'm not rich nor a 'youngster')
Not really a pub so muc as a restraurant. Only one cask ale - London Pride. Large place that does a lot of business. The worn sofas don't do much for me.
A great place - always with excellent bar service! As mentioned, the roof terrace is a nice place to sit in the summer. Also has a nice comfy sofas and a billiards table for those that way inclined!! The Thai food that I've always had here has always been of a good quality too.
I was after a pint and a roast a few Sundays ago, and somewhere to watch the football. The screen was such bad quality that most of the the players weren't visible but that's not what I'm on here to complain about.
The food: 8 for a roast is steep I feel, but doable if it's good. However, this wasn't good - not one item on the (small) plate was good, in fact each item had at least one identifiable fault. It took 45mins to come, the condiments were empty, it was cold (not warm, cold) and the staff were unhelpful at best. Quite possibly the closest I've come to Halls food since leaving Uni. Grim.
Tatty sofas and rich youngsters crowd this place. Place that tends to show rugby rather than football....
Nice roof terrace though
Do like this place but somethings missing and I can't quite put my finger on it.
A really friendly pub, I love it, esp in the summer it's nice to sit up on the roof.
great night out espesially tues quiz although be sure to get there about 6:30 to secure seats as they go very fast!!!!

for many years the pub seemed to attract an endless supply of great looking bar girls. excellent pub quiz and weekly raffle. sick topical names for pub quiz teams are worth a visit alone. only grumble would be that pub has fallen victim to the "new clapham suits". Shame really.

Great pub. We almost live next door (literally) and it is better to go there for the great portioned and well priced thai food than sta at home. Great, relaxed atmosphere, comfy lounges, cat needs to go tho

top roof terrace and points for having a cat.

Kate - 17 Apr 2003 14:14 |
An excelent pub quiz on Tuesday
Oliver - 14 Apr 2003 10:53 |
the cat is still there. is good on a weekend and offers bar billiards. the quiz is AWFUL though - the worst i have suffered despite smug quizmaster and the same team who "win" every week. is still pretty poncey, however.
kieron - 1 Feb 2003 19:22 |
Excellent boozer, great sunday lunches - cat is still very much alive and well! Less poncey than other Clapham bars. Can be a bit smokey though

Wicked pub quiz on a Tuesday, and a very sexy bar man!!!!!
anonymous - 21 Jan 2003 16:56 |
It did have a cat until some pissed f**er kicked it's head in for fun. It was called marmalade and was a sweetie
They say it has a cat. I don't remember it.
This is the place sofas go to die.
