This is a wonderful pub, with great staff and friendly locals. The management have done an excellent job with this place. RIP Bill Buckner - a local who loved this pub!!

We stopped in yesterday (Halloween, 31st October 2010). They had just put on a new cask of Shepherd Neame's Spitfire and that was really tasting fine. One of the most "local feeling" pubs I have been into, and they were all very friendly to us. If you are (as we were) visiting nearby 17th century Ham House and Garden -- highly recommended -- and you are looking to wet your whistle, this is not a bad choice at all.

This pub is quite close to me but I had only been there 2 or 3 times in 15 years or so due to its extreme dumpiness but now that has all changed for the better. Popped in this week after a meeting nearby and was pleasantly surprised by the appearance and the atmosphere. It was bright, clean and welcoming. I even helped out one of the struggling teams in the quiz. The beer was good too if not that unusual, my two pints of Youngs Ordinary went down very well. This is a locals pub very much on the up and will be featuring more regularly in my social calendar from now on.

Dont take any notice of review before dec 08.Under new management since then(or Patsy's. She must be easily scared) The pub has only gone up in the world, and the new management intend to take it further. The pubs now very clean, food is back on and the beer is now as good as you can get anywhere(Ive tried one or two, hic)New dartboard in a better position. 3/4 size pool table but not to much room around it.Meat draw saturday at 3. Quiz night coming and live music. Try it now.
This pub has loads of potential and it is beginning to realise it. The management have moved the dartboard to a sensible area and have cleaned things up considerably. A new 3/4 size pool table is in and the real ales are now crisp and clear. For the person who left the comment about running out coz the clientel scared them..... I have felt more threatened in an outlet of The Early Learning Centre. The majority of people drinking in the Tap are hard working and very pleasant.
the new management are very friendly! theres a tv for football and other things. The dart board has become very popular as the pool table is very small.
Such a shame - lovely little pub and new staff/management seem lovely. However, the couple of times I've braved it, most of the drinkers have been truly scary and I had to run away after one drink

Sorry but this IS a dump. Just on the cusp of the nice part of Ham but far too near the scum area. Idle bar staff and rancid beer.
The new management has really tried hard with the decor, food and the beers, sadly they have not managed to eliminate the local scum that frequent this establishment and who gave it the 'infamous' tag in the first place. Get rid of the 'flotsam and jetsam' who are only there to spoil it for others and cause trouble, and you will find yourselves a decent pub with friendly staff, but that has sadly gained a reputation as a hangout for the fools in their cheap England football shirts and lager lout attitude.
WE NOW HAVE A POOL TABLE AND SHOW LIVE SPORTS AGAIN! WE ARE NOT A DUMP! WE STILL HAVE A LOVELY HOME COOKED MENU TO OFFER AND A GREAT RANGE OF BEERS AND WINES.
STAFF ARE FRIENDLY, MANAGEMENT IS FANTASTIC AND CUSTOMERS ARE SUPERB...SO ALL IN ALL A GOOD PLACE TO SPEND SOME TIME WITH FRIENS AND FAMILY.
WE CAN CATER FOR FUNCTIONS AND EVENTS YOU MAY HAVE
COMING SOON POOL COMPETITIONS AND QUIZ NIGHTS

This pub is far far better than the shoddily designed 'Lookless Frog'
Don't be put off by the seeming lack of smartness. The staff are great and the food is brilliant. We were going to Ham House and called in for a meal. we nearly didn't bother to go to the House!
Great pub! Under new management which is really doing a good job - locals are friendly, bar staff are cool (especially the female barmaid!) And doesn't sell the usual beers you'd expect which makes for a welcome change.
One of the best pubs iv been to in ages, a really friendly atmosphere and quite nice for familys too. Its an old style pub with amazing food, all freshly cooked which makes a change.
The owners are very friendly and make you feel welcome. The bar staff are generally the same way, The girl who served me was polite and talkative.
all in all an exellent pub, Ill be going there again.
this pub is great! lovely atmosphere great bar staff! who are always polite! lovely food! becks veir on draught which tastes really good! great family pub! lovely for families to enjoy themselves get your asses down there for a great time! xx
the food in this pub is the greatest! I went and had the fish pie, was so good had to finish off my mates!!! they had a pub quiz on that night which was good fun. bit hard though or maybe Im just dumb! great decor and ambience was good would recommend this pub, oh and they have becks veir on draught which is a great tasting light beer, would suggest this if your going to do the quiz.....
They've started well here - 'under new ownership', two good real ales when I went, a friendly welcome, and considerate service. The food was good too. The only thing wrong here is that they must have the naffest pub sign in Surrey, possibly in the country
The previous comment reminds me that you cannot cater for all tastes. I HATE pubs with big screens and pool tables. This could be an excellent old pub... and would be so much better if the beer was in better condition. I had a pint of real ale, which was so flat and tired I couldn't finish it. Management take note: real ale in good condition will get the punters in.
This pub has changed a whole lot since I moved out of Ham. It had a pool table, juke box and darts board and PEOPLE in it when I left. They might not of been the nicest bunch of people in there most days but they were the locals who actually went in and had a laugh. The prices have gone up and the refurb is nice, just where are the people? You need to get the people back in.
Why dont you have a big screen anymore?
If you want people in you have to show sports.
Anyway nice pub.

I popped into this pub for lunch and found the menu excellent. It is nothing like it used to be. Friendly staff nice beer/atmosphere and the Horseraddish mash is a must to go with the lamb shank. I was stuufed when I left WICKED!! Perfect place to take the missis!!

Dear All I would like to invite you to the reopening of the Ham Brewery Tap in Ham, Richmond. The Grand Opening is to commence from 2pm on the 18th of March 2006. The pub has been renovated back to a lovely rustic farm house style pub, which will sell nice ales, great hearty meals and have the ambiences to match. The family friendly pub is offering a free hog roast on opening day, so why not pop along have a look at the menu and have a chat with the Jamie Roberts the manager.

I literally cannot wait for this place to re-open, just out of sheer curiousity to see if they can make what was the Ham equivalent of the bar in Starwars into somewhere you can actually have a drink without feeling you might be sucked into a weird parallel universe of alcoholic freakery at any time.
As mentioned below, this pub is about to close for renovation and is under new management.
Rumour is this is about to close. It won't be missed.
This pub only serves the local estate and is not at all attractive for most people. Unless you live really close by there is no good reason to go there as there are much better pubs not far away.
