The place is pretty run down with holding manager at the moment, due to it being up for sale. 900,000!!!!!
|
The Stag has a reputation of being a violent, racist, drug ridden pub but having visited it recently I think this is an understatement. The place is a complete dump with punters that would look more at home in the "house of horrors" and should you look at them wrongly then expect an invitation to "step outside" or maybe just a glass in the face. God forbid if you put the wrong song on the jukebox or go to the toilet at the wrong time. The only saving grace was the bar-maid who was very attractive and served me with a lovely smile. I would give this pub a wide berth or unless your dying of thirst then pop in and out and make sure to tip the barmaid.

At last a decent boozer with decent food and a great guvnor. For years this pub has been blighted by reputation (bad) but now it is a great place to eat & drink. Once a month they hold food tasting sessions, there is live music, friendly staff and a decent pint. Fridays is fish & chip day, fresh fish bought locally, plenty of chips with either peas or baked beans for a fiver!!!! Sunday roast fiver!!! You can even book a table and the staff will dress the table for your family to enjoy a great sunday lunch. Well done Paul & Lesley you're doing a grand job.

Lets just say I am a gay bloke in Burnt Oak and the boys have made me particularly welcome especially in the toilets at the back :-) its definately becoming one for the gay boys and the bi boys

Went there for the first time last week thought it was in need of a bit of love and attention. Should be a great place to watch footie if they get it right. Big pub with enough screens.
|
This pub is now a really bad place to be these days, since Kaz and co left, before that it was owned and run by Lyn and Gerry and they also ran a tight ship. Loads of fun in the old days before refit, it looked good but died a death when Kaz and the girls moved on. Sadly it will take a lot to restore it to what it once was......

This place has no real ale, but it does have its fair share of bog standard lager. The locals were either pissed or very pissed and they all had an air of dodgy about them.
There are a couple of pool tables and plenty of plasma screens for watching Sky and Setanta, There is a decked area out the back covered by two huge brollies for the smokers.
This is not a great pub and I would rather watch the match at the Lansdowne up the road.

I used to do my weekly shopping in The Stag when I lived in Burnt Oak. There was a chap there (we'll call him Jim the gent for legal reasons) who would take your shopping list and nip nextdoor to Tesco to "obtain" what you wanted while you sat back and enjoyed a pint. After about twenty minutes, Jim would return with four bags full of shopping. You then handed him a tenner and bought him a beer but never questioned him on how the shopping bill was so cheap and certainly never mentioned receipts. One day a girl sent him out to get some hairspray and shampoo (because she's worth it) and a few minutes later we saw police cars pulling up outside the shop. Jim didn't return to The Stag with the L'Oreal for a long time. (3 months on this occasion i think). The Bald Faced Stag had a bit of a reputation when I lived around here but that was often stirred up by the local bullshitters who never drank there. True, it has seen the odd battle but if you made the effort to get to know some of the regulars, you would never get any hassle in Burnt Oak. Gerry and Lyn always made you feel welcome. I haven't been there since the refurb but I hope the piano is still there. One quibble - it was primarily a lager pub and the Guinness and beer was muck. Although this applies to most pubs in the Burnt Oak / Edgware area. Places serving real ale are few and far between in this corner of London. < INTERESTING FACT> The first ever Tesco shop opened in Burnt Oak just up the road from The Stag and as we all know, it is now the biggest supermarket chain in Britain. So leave Jim the Gent alone !

Gavin lamb isnt as gorgeous as me !!!!

For some reason this Pub Seems to be stuck as Pub of the Day for the last few days. I did go in this Pub a few months ago whilst in the area going to Maplins ETC. Im not surprised its all one post entrys trying to big it up its terrible no good no ales on tap when I went in and was full of a young & loud crowed of lager drinkers never went back again.

A local pub for local people. beer is ok, staff are nice enough, it doesn't smell noticably and you probably won't get stabbed if you go there. Currently closed for refurbishment untill early September I believe.

All hail Gerry Hickey and all the boys from the Stag in the 70s

I find it very amusing to fact that most of the people who have a bad word to say about this bar are punters who have been put in their place at one time or another! The good comments are made by the staff. nice one HEN!you know who you are, keep listening to jethro tull! I say don't believe a word, see the facts for yourself, it's a great pub and i wouldn't have a bad word said against it! A big shout going out to the staff, you do the stag proud, and you know who you are!!! and so do i! p.s. when you gonna have another of your excellent discos!!!

One of the most enjoyable pubs i've had the pleasure to drink in, friendly staff, a sunday roast to die for, and the most family orientated environment, bring the whole family for a sunday roast or B.B.Q, you will not be dissapointed! And Gerry hickey wearing his catering uniform mixed with his excelent catering skills and a smile, well wot more could you ask for.....meet the HAPPY CHEF! NICE ONE, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!!!

The Bald Faced Stag should win an award for being one of the most if not the best pubs in the north london area, great beer never a dodgy pint, nice and clean, staff are very polite, andd gerry goes out of his way to book the best entertainment all paid for out of gerry and lyns own pocket, so please do not knock this pub untill you have really been it, we can all go around telling tells, but i know i have been in there for 30+ years and hope to be around to go in there for the next 30
|
the bald faced stag was my favourite bar throughout my world travels. Free entertainment, friendly staff, great food, great prices and friendly regulars. They have a fantastic new renovated bar which I am told will spread throughout the rest of the pub. It's just a warm cozy place for a great pint!

GREAT PUB, GREAT FOOD, GREAT DRINK, GREAT STAFF
|
The person who made the pub crawl was obviously so drunk by the time they reached the Bald Faced Stag, they had no memory of being there and were forced to invent a report. This is a well-run, family pub with friendly staff where you are always made to feel welcome. There is a great food menu and free entertainment every weekend.

This is a great pub. Lots going on. Karaoke every Friday, prizes for best male/female performers. Live music or disco Saturdays. Recently raised over 4,000 for childrens' charity. There are 7 TVs and big screen for all sporting events. Plenty of special offers available throughout the week. There's pool with prizes. Regulars are treated to a bottle of champagne on special occasions and the service at this pub is fantastic.
Gerry - 30 Oct 2002 17:41 |
I agree with Linda and Spanner. Have these people been to the Stag recently - if ever? Linda and Gerry are great hosts who treat everybody fairly and you are always guaranteed a good laugh. Friday nights are brilliant with the Karaoke. The food is fresh and homecooked. As for the slide its kiddy size and is too small for adult's big bottoms. May I suggest to those with negative comments that perhaps they feel like they are taking their life in their own hands because their attitude is so bad. Don't knock it 'till you've tried it!!!!!!! To those regulars - See your Friday
Jacky - 30 Oct 2002 16:43 |
Thank God for Spanner! He's 100% right. I suggest that the negative comments made are from those who do not use the pub. This is a great traditional pub with lots of interesting things happening. As for the slide - absolute rubbish. Adults are not permitted on the slide and it's routinely checked for Health & Safety.
Linda - 30 Oct 2002 15:51 |
I must agree with spanner 100%

MY GOD HAVE THE MORONS WHO WROTE REPORTS ON THIS FAMILY RUN PUB REALLY VISITED OR ARE THEY JUST GOING ON RUMORS, THE STAG IS WHAT A GOOD PUB IS ALL ABOUT, GOOD FOOD GOOD BEER AND A GOOD WAY TO RELAX WITH MATES AFTER A HARD DAYS WORK, AND AS FOR THE COMENT OF RACISM IF THAT IS THE CASE WHY THE HELL IS THERE A GIRL OF MIXED RACE WORKING BEHIND THE BAR, I THINK THAT THE IDIOTS WHO WRITE THINGS LIKE THIS SHOULD GET A LIFE AND LIVE IN THE REAL WORLD, THE PUB HAS MANY OLD FOLK WHO USE IT AS THERE LOCAL AND AT LEAST THE FEEL SAFE IN THE COMPANY OF THE LOCALS AND I MUST POINT OUT THAT GERRY AND LYN ARE GREAT HOST
SPANNER - 17 Oct 2002 10:48 |
This is a really grim place, full of assorted serial drunks, racists etc. Has an long-running reputation for being the place to be if you want, at best, to be verbally pestered all night, at worst, to have your head kicked in.
