Out of 6 posts in the past 4 years, just one negative one - which I disagree with. A no frills, no food pub - with TV sports, newspapers, pool table, internet (rare!) and a friendly owner/manager (Andy), with good natured customers. Not posh - a real old syle boozer; the last poster is spot on.

I popped in here after walking out of the pretentious Red Bar and found a very friendly local pub with good beer (although a very unadventurous choice of beer, Bombardier and Courage Best). Some of the other comments here show that people just do not appreciae a good honest pub. There are no frills here, but it is full of genuine friendly people.

At the suggestion of BITE we went there and it was awful, we couldn't wait to leave. The staff were very unfriendly, the interior shabby, all the clientel completey wasted by 7pm and awful music played too loud. Only postive was a good pint of bombadier, the other option was courage best but we did not hang about to try it. Unless you are a local, and a certain kind at that, leave it to them.

A-ha; a genuine local here and no mistake! No pretense, no illusions of grandeur, just a basic, working class boozer which doesn't flinch from down-to-earth, friendly banter, and generally allowing folk to have a ripsnorting good time. A rare pub in that it has (wisely) retained the traditional 2-bar layout and this works nicely, as there is a hatch allowing either area to be seen and heard but they remain two separate areas; one for drinking and the other more of a games area. Not especially a pub for the beer connoisseur, although the ales seemed to be on song on my last visit (new barrel of Bombardier just installed). Some local chaps were indulging in a Chas 'n' Dave singalong (courtesy of one of those new-fangled jukeboxes that is digital and has access to every hit single since 1952) - okay so it's not for everyone and sometimes this would be too much, but in the White Hart it works and doesn't grate at all. I absolutely concur with the previous commentator; this is a place where the wee wife would never find you. Don't rule out slipping down this side-street and stepping in for a spot of sneeky suppage!

Grand little pub 'off the beaten track' - in the centre of the town. Only pub in Dorking with free internet access. Well kept beers and family run. Good place to be when wife is shopping; she'll never find you !

An old style boozer just off Dorking High Street - opposite the Post Office. Rolls, newspapers, free internet access, a fine pool table and Andy - the friendly and helpful governor. The racing is on TV with a betting shop closeby. Probably the most popular/no frills pub in Dorking. In fact, a little cosy gem - with ample parking just a few yards up the historic Dene Street.

One of Dorking's finest old buildings. I recommend anyone visiting for this reason alone. Not exactly amazing food for everyone, but as for traditional Dorking this is really good.

My Grandmother used to take me (and family) here many moons ago - and the place was old then! It's even older now though it still has not learnt that customer is king and this place is here for them and not the other way around. I have tried quite hard to organise events here in an effort to spend serious amounts of cash, all to no avail. The place looks old fashioned (part of it's charm I guess) but the service is also old fashioned. I'd go there to remind me of what going out in the UK used to be like hard work, expensive and were reminded of the nuisance you were causing, roll on faulty towers. Shame it could be something to be proud of but I think I'd rather stay home.

has a poor reputation, but no where near as bad as people seem to think it is
a pub with real character.

Excellent pub. Old fashioned. No poseurs allowed. Pub grub=sandwiches and pork scratchings.
|
Ah, the Snakepit. Not for a romantic evening with the missus, but it does have a certain charm and really cheap sandwiches.
|
Really rather good. traditional, good beer, free internet access, so continuous porn in the bar.
|
It's just an old fashioned boozer and not a bad one at that. As for it being a gay bar - complete rubbish!

Best old time pub in town. If all you want is a good pint of beer in the company of other drinking men this is the place to come. No food served (unless you count pork scratchings) which means this is 100% traditional English boozer.
