Up it's own arse Taylor's pub where the pretentious and the wannabes of Ripon go to talk loudly to "impress" visitors. The ale wasn't really up to much either.

Smartly decorated pub which looked the nicest of the ones we saw in the city centre and it was popular on Saturday afternoon (race day but the meeting had already started). Big enough to accommodate drinkers and diners alike. After a couple of evenings enjoying the beers of the Masham breweries, it was nice to find that this is a Timothy Taylor house and the Ram Tam was in great condition. I can see why the last reviewer is/was a regular visitor.

Another visit to Ripon with the wife and I staying at the Royal Oak on the Thursday before Easter, we arrived at 9.30pm so had time for several drinks before it closed at 11pm.
On arrival it was very busy, several couples, a group of girls but mainly blokes.
Like my previous visit’s here the ales are excellent, on this visit I tucked into several very good pints of Timothy Taylor’s Landlord. Other ales available were Golden Best, Ramtam, Boltmaker and Saltaire Blonde.
Cracking pub and I can highly recommend the full English breakfast we had the following morning.

Another re-tick for me after dinner at the local Italian restaurant on a Saturday evening in late January. We arrived here at 11pm for a couple of drinks as I knew it was open to midnight.
Older crowd in here than the Unicorn around the corner, it was about a 3rd full with most of the tables and chairs taken up by groups or couples, food had stopped being served so the restaurant part was empty.
Timothy Taylor's Golden Best was again in excellent form just like on my previous visit.
I’m due to be back in Ripon in March and we are planning on staying here next time as they have rooms.
The Royal Oak is another cracking pub in Ripon, great little City with friendly locals and good pubs.

Timothy Taylor pub just off the Market Square.
4 Timothy Taylor ales on the pumps, which were Landlord, Ram Tam, Boltmaker and my choice Golden Best @ 3.5%. The 5th ale available was Saltaire Blonde.
2 seating areas at the top of the stairs as you enter the pub with the U shaped bar to your right. Light and airy inside with lots of trendy lights hanging from the ceilings. The walls are painted a different colour in each room, while hanging on each wall are pictures, drawings and photos all in gold frames, this adds a warm decorative feel to the 2 large rooms. To the rear is a large dining room with an open fireplace.
Music playing softly, a couple of locals chatting to the barmaids at the bar, not that busy on my visit but still a very nice pub

Came here pretty regularly while staying in Ripon because of convenient location and nice feel. Good quality pub food. Nice Timothy Taylor landlord. Attentive staff.
|
Friendly staff and the beer was good. Need a few more guest ales in my opinion. I like to try new beers. Lager left a lot to be desired. Had a not cleaned in weeks taste and odour to it. Always a nice relaxed atmosphere in here. Food menu looked good. If I hadn't just eaten I'd have given them a whirl.

Taylors house, bit of a gastro pub with modern bright interior. I'll forgive that sin for the superb quality of the ale, Golden Best and Landlord, both superb, served by friendly welcoming staff.
|
Mainly aimed at diners but has small front bar area for drinkers - Good range of quality Timothy Taylor beers
|
Wetherspoons style interior makes it feel a little cold/lacking in character. Taylors range on offer in excellent condition, maybe a little cold for some. Food high end/restaurant quality and good service from happy staff.

A Timothy Taylor managed house, it usually has most of their range on, also Peroni, Amstel and Becks on draught plus a UK made lager and a fizzy cider. The latest renovation has worked better than the last one before Taylors took over. The unfeasibly high stools have gone replaced by modern but comfortable seating. Lighter wood and chrome decor in a large single space but with discrete areas including a raised area seemingly a dining space. Friendly and attentive staff. Busy with a mixed clientele including some children eating here this lunchtime when I called in for a much needed pint of Landlord. Popular with a younger age group in the evenings as it's almost next door to a night club.

Called in after a visit to Fountains Abbey; staff very friendly, Timothy Taylor's Landlord sublime, food excellent.
Highly recommended.

Just had a major refit, a bit too major for my liking, its now light and modern, but the Taylors beers were excellent and the food was good.
|
Should be undergoing a major refit in September, closing the pub for around 10 weeks. This depends on planning issues due to the listed nature of the frontage.

Has now been bought out by Timothy Taylor's, having been in administratiion for some months.
|
The pub has been closed on a evening for over a month now, with no reason given. It has been open at lunchtimes, but only to sell food.
|
An excellent traditional pub - old world decor, relaxed, but often busy in the evenings. Good food, inexpensive. Sunday carvery a must for hungry carnivores. Best of the bigger pubs in Ripon.
