Wetherspoon's outlet that looks quite small from its entrance overlooking the sea. But in actual fact, it's much bigger than it initially looks. This was my last stop on Saturday evening and a few of the local reprobates had clearly ended up in here. The bar manager appeared to be considering throwing a few out, to the detriment of serving customers like me. Greene King Abbot & Ruddles Best were on, as you'd expect. They also had Sharp's Doom Bar & Westerham Godswallop. The real cider was Rosie's Pig. As Wetherspoon's go, this was pretty poor.

One of the smaller Wetherspoon's with not the greatest selection of beer. OK though

Quite a pub-by feel to this Wetherspons, even allowing standing at the bar.

Oh dear. I always look out for Wetherspoons pub where ever I go somewhere but this must rank as one of the dreariest. A warm Spring lunchtime, a gloomy dark inside with few customers, and a small yard with tressle tables. OK, join the nicotime addicts and lager drinkers. No kidding, with some excellent beers to choose from, everybody was drinking lager! The place needs a lick of paint and a few members of staff, kicks up their gloomy arses. Can't fault the food nor the excellent Sweden microbrew but please, brighten the place up a tad. It was depressing!

Stinking hole full of scum.

Normally their selection of real ale is awfull but this time it improved, they had 5 yes 5 real ales on.
With 6 staff behind the counter the service was quick.

Also the food came out quicly, there seems to be some new managers in to the service has improved, for now...

Still some idiots in who think that when they talk loud they are interesting but then again in any other pub one can turn up the music...

Can't begin to say how much I like this place. So I'll stop now.

Nipped in after paying a flying visit to a nearby tug and rug joint. I had a pint of Chablis and a round of cucumber sandwiches.

PERFICK!

I love this place

Typical Whetherspoons pub, full of old men drinking cheap bitter and chavs eating two for one meals with their chavvy partners. A decent location can't make up for a dingy interior, surly manager and bar staff with all the charm and communication skills of Basil Fawlty, alas with sense of humour or irony.
I took advantage of the burger and a pint offer, which was OK, while my probation officer, Myleen, had the ravioli of truffle in a red wine jus followed by quail, which was nicely pink and came with steamed vegetables. For dessert we both had the Special Brew ice cream.

Full of noisy kids and chavs.. poor selection of food and poor beer

came in here last bank holiday week end on the Saturday, probably the hottest week of the year so far, and Herne bay was packed, had a marathon walk to Birchington and back, so about was ready for some refreshment whaen we got back at about five pm, the place was heaving, and the pubs on the front were very busy, so it was a surprise to find it reasonably quite in here, both the beer and the service were very good as was the food, so all in all we were pleasantly surprised, i'll give it a 7 judged on this visit

Bank Holiday Monday and where does one find themselves? In a Wetherspoons! Though be it, one by the sea. I paid a visit to The Saxon Shore with my girlfriend last Monday (27th August) and wasnt particularly impressed by Herne Bays member of this branch. The interior was dark and drab and not a place I think I could ever have settled. The outdoor beer patio was a little better, but still this leaded much to be desired. The clientele seemed to be a balanced mix of locals and tourists with the obligatory odd drunkard lurking about. The ale selection was quite poor. However, on a plus note, my chicken was tasty. Hmmm

A friend and I decided to take a break from the Bus Rally thst was taking place over the weekend, and suggested we had lunch at 'Spoons.

I agreed with some apprehension, especially as the majority that I have thus far visited have been pretty dire to say the least.

I was pleasantly surprised. There are two separate non-smoking dining areas, one of which afford a sea view. There was none of the usual posters for their special offers.

As it was Sunday lunchtime, I expeceted the place to be heaving - which it wasn't! The Bateman's "Summer Swallow" was very quaffable, and the "Abbot Ale" also very good. Again, at my friend's recommendation, I tried the Aberdeen Angus Steak Pie, which was spot on!

I had a minimal wait when I went to the bar to make my several orders. The young lass said there was a 20 minute wait on food, and my order appeared in less than fifteen!

There was sufficient staff covering, and none of the usual aimless wandring about, not knowing who was next in line for a drink and suchlike.

The toilets are on the gound floor which is a boon to an old duffer like me with severely creaking hips, and the Gents were spotless.

The only criticism is the endemic reluctance shared with all 'Spoons to clear the table of glasses.

Whether the Saxon Shore reverts to the normal 'Spoons standard during the week and evenings, I cannot say, but I was pleasntly surprised on my Gricer's visit to Herne Bay for the day.

Had it not been for the table clearing, I would have given it 8. Saxon Shore loses one point therefore.

P.S. "Effing Franks" tentacles have spread further - there's a Thorley Tavern across the road!

Comfortable and relaxed JDW. Green painted wood in back room is soothing. Decent enough place.

Was there on a hot Sunday in June - nothing much to write home about, typical Wetherspoons. Punters all looked very depressed.... Smokey

Awful place. Bizarrely I visited on Christmas Day for half an hour when we saw it was open. Never have I been in a grimmer place. Worst Wetherspoons I have ever been to. Had the worst pint of real ale I have ever tasted and left it after two sips.

There is a place called the Ship Inn a bit along the front that I liked in this town.
