please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I see Merry Maid has given this pub too a glowing report, just like the Cayley Arms on the prom' at Rhos on Sea, which is operated by the same landlords.

Remarkable.

Even a blind man will see that Merry Maid has been put up to this.

Oh and the landlords despise Welsh speakers but deny this under the guise of having a Welsh speaking bar maid, who again, remarkably, refuses to speak Welsh to anyone wanting service through this medium.

Typical ignorance.

This pub has recently been taken over by proprietors who oewn another Rhos pub, The Cayley Arms.

Most of the locals have now left this pub for pastures new. The pub frequently runs out of beer which is not replaced for sometimes days. Some cosmetic work has been done on the place, but this has not helped the poor quality of the poor selection of beers on offer.

Pints are overpriced, short measured and bringing this to the attention of the rather young and inexperienced bar staff, usually results in scowls and protests. Infact, complaining usually results in a ban. a chat with a local recently, informed me that a minor complaint can result in being banned for life.

The toilets are a disgrace and I noticed personally, staff visiting the toilets, yet when I went in, the sinks were dry? Clearly no hand washing, so hygiene is a low priority.

The Ship has had a well known carvery for several years and under various managers. It is now extremely poor and over priced. The cuts of meat are wafer thin.
Vegetables are undercooked and hard.

A uniquely uninspiring experience. Probably the worst pub now on the North Wales coast. I would not recommend it to my worst enemy.

This pub has recently changed hands. It was run by the Happy Days pub company who have leased it to its new boss, I presume, as a sign saying "Pub for lease" or words to that effect has been removed from its spacious beer garden. This was about a month to six weeks ago.
It's certainly got lots of unfulfilled potential. It's not just a pub but a landmark, for a start, featuring on national bus timetables. It could do with better projection and some illumination of its big on-wall lettering, while lighting of its beer garden would give it a real boost in summer months.
Reasonable range of lagers, poor range of beers, which include Boddingtons, Worthington and John Smiths. Not CAMRA recognised. Best known for its carvery, tacked on the back, which is (apparently) quite profitable.
Staffing levels have been poor, but the change in control is still in progress so I guess we'll have to give the new regime time to get their act together.
It has a capacious lounge, the downside of which is that it feels very empty when it is. Could do with some cost-effective softening, perhaps with drapes and plants.
It also has the only payphone in the area, but it's been out of order for ages. Apparently management some time ago got wind of it being used for drug trafficking so it was taken out of service. I wish they'd solve the problem or else get rid of it.
Might add another comment in a few months time when things there are more stable.

Having visited the Ship previously I was suprised to see that service had slipped even further. Unfortunately on this occassion the management and chef were absent and service was extremely poor, I feel until staff shortages are rectified the restaurant should remain closed.
My husband found the assistant manager quite unsympathetic when speaking to him the following day.
