Closed down now, some time in 2016. Surprising it kept going so long considering the Cumberland is almost next door but I suppose they serve different customer bases.

After several years, I decided to give this bar another chance. It was even worse than I remembered. Loud, shouty locals, toilets that stank, beer that was almost undrinkable and TVs blaring in every corner - all showing different things. Avoid.

Looked good from the outside, advertising Greene King IPA for 1.99 but they don't even have it :-( No real ales at all.

makes a pleasant change to find a pub that doesnt pander to the normal office/posh crowd in this area. beer wasnt cheap but the atmosphere is relaxed and not full of people complaining about late food or nowhere to sit.
hey, i like 'rough' pubs :) this is the kind of pub that needs support otherwise we'll be left with cut-and-paste chain establishments offering the same drinks/food - variety is good.

We've lived in the area for a few years and always avoided the place based on its outside appearance - don't judge a book by its' cover!! I've never known a pub where you can get to know so many people so quickly - they're all unpretentious and open (rare in West Kensington pubs). Although the pub can get 'lively' at times, it's all part of the entertainment in a place which is never the same two nights in a row. The management has recently changed but the friendly bar staff remain.

Good Pub, Friendly, and shows the sports.

I think the remarks regarding the "slaggy" staff are well off the mark, as the people who come in, come back time after time as they recieve friendly treatment, the atmosphere is good. theres Djs, live bands, karoke, quiz, pool nights.. It is a family pub, the people that come in, have lived in the area for a long time, and know one another. which in my opinion sets a good atmosphere. And theres never any trouble.
Each to their own i guess.

I live in the area and have always avoided this place as it looks shocking from the outside. However, I went in there the other day with a mate on a whim and within 10 minutes we were having a chat with some locals, the landlord and the landlord's son and involved in a pool tournament. I decided to go back with my parents and once again, more locals came over and had a chat with us. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but at least the people talk to you and it's not up it's own arse. Give it a whirl if you can handle people being friendly and a decent juke box.

I use this pub regularly with my wife and know most of the locals personally and the people who slate the pub have not spent any real time in there.the manager is extremley friendly lady and the owner makes time to get to know people so they want to come back.

I think the comments about the slaggy bar staff were quite gentle really when you consider what they are like. Loud mouthed, hard as nails and downright nasty to the eye is also putting it mildly. the one who served my group spent more time on our side of the bar mixing with a very unruly mob& seemed to drink more than the customers. This pub is disgusting. You can cut the aggresive atmosphere with a knife.Avoid at all costs.

Although I appreciate people have diferent tastes. I find some of these remarks very insultive. Mr Raffles remark about slaggy barstaff was very unessisary.
This is a local working mans pub and yes although some patrons may be rowdy, they rarely have any trouble.

Having recently had a facelift,I decided to pay a return visit to the Live. And guess what??? Its even worse than it was before.Same know it all know sod all estate trash litter the bar, mouthing off about subjects they know nothing about.Same flat but very expensive beer.Same miserable slaggy bar staff. Same countless tellys all booming out at full volume --- in a pub thats no bigger than an outhouse. For God sake, the only possible way of getting a decent pub here is to bulldoze it and start again from scratch. Shithole of the highest order.Avoid.

I have to agree with most reviews. This is a horrible place and to be so close to The Cumberland next door I dont know why anyone would want to go in there.
Go to the Cumberland instead it is great!
|
Not quite as bad as the Seven Stars further down the road, however this is still a shite hole. What kind of pub needs about 10 tellys all on at the same time - especially one thats not much bigger than a shoebox? Vile woman behind the bar took my order and then rejoined her crusty looking mates, occasionaly giving 'Who the hell are you' glances at our group.Thank GOD for the sanctury of The Cumberland next door.

I really do not think bars can get any worse than this (although in this area anything is possible). This pub is an insult to the drinking classes. The service is beyond appalling, the (fairly decent) decor ruined by the numerous screens around the place screening every football game they can cram out, with leering drunk townies transfixed to the screen to see if Outer Mongolia score against Timbuktoo United. The beer is an insult to taste buds and is served with such sloppiness it makes you feel like tipping it over the staff - and wnen you taste it you would wish you had. At the end of the evening, the drunks come staggering out chanting the Match of the Day theme as they vomit in the nearby streets and insult anybody decent that may unfortunately be walking past.
They have applied for a license extension in the upcoming law shake up.If they get one, then there is no justice & it would be a blatant attack on sanity. Along with the Norman Arms on Lille Road, the worst bars in the area and a good excuse for demolition.

I've never been quite clear on what people mean exactly by "chavs". If you mean ordinary working class people having a laugh together then I suppose you might be right. I found it terrifically friendly in here even if the music was a bit loud for me.
Needs a cask ale or two put in though.
|
breeding ground for chavs... unpleasant atmosphere... stay away.

This ia a most unpleasent pub these days.Rowdy drunks ruin any chance of a relaxing drink, and I was unfortunate to witness a nasty attack on an innocent person just walking past. The Cumberland Arms -(very near by) has a much better atmosphere altogether.
|
New owners have improved this pub, making it a much cheerier and welcoming place to be. Good place to watch sports with plenty of screens and usually not too busy so possible to sit down ( comfortable chairs). Bit like being at home really except you have the advantage of having draught beer on hand. The owners have kept the local feel, which makes a nice change from other pubs in the area.
|
Can't see much point to this place especially now the Cumberland Arms - a few doors down - has been massively improved. Used to have live music, possibly not any more. Tables outside but then you're sitting right by the North End Road.
