Was expecting rather more from this place. Yes, they do serve bass from a jug. Yes it does taste nice. However, when I was there it was the only real ale available. Otherwise just a basic boozer for lager swillers with sport on big screen TV.

Visited the Station Inn yesterday after close of play at the Derbyshire v Warwickshire cricket match. There are two handpumps but the Draught Bass is only available FROM THE JUG. There were large signs pointing this out which I didn't notice.
Finally managed to gain access and found the landlord a decent character and his pint of Bass as good as any I've drunk over the years. My visit was well worth the wait, and I'll try to have another top pint when next in the area.
Quite simply the best pint of Bass I have ever had the pleasure of drinking. The Landlord is also an excellent character with a well rehearsed set of stories and jokes to entertain both new and regular custom. A great little gem.
I've been to the station a few times recently after work, or on a Friday afternoon. I found the beer of very good quality. I drank the Deuchars IPA, very nice, my mates drank the Bass, which they spoke highly of. Staff were helpful.

Have tried to get a pint here several times over the years but have yet to gain access. Last Saturday at around tea time the pub was full with doors locked. Thinking that this was due to an earlier football match, we knocked and the landlord opened the door to tell us he had just called "last orders". Judging by earlier attempts and the current experience it appears that the place is run to suit the landlord rather than the customer and the profit motive; however, in view of the positive comments of others we will continue to seek the holy grail of "the ultimate pint of Bass" and hope to find out one day if it is as good as they say.

Excellent pub- spotlessly clean - with very good Bass and a very friendly and chatty licensee. One tiled area in front of the bar with a pool table off to the right. There were a couple of other beers available and it looked as though there were always 2 on tap with the Bass being served from a jug. Handy for the station and not far from the other great pubs in this area (Alexandra and Brunswick). Well worth a visit and note that during the week they keep "old fashioned" hours !!

Superb pub, has been for years. Very experienced and friendly landlord - never any trouble owing to his keen involvement in Pubwatch. Beers second to none. Best Deuchars I have ever had anywhere. Very clean, well presented premises and also has very nice function room. Toilets impeccable :o)
Nice friendly pub on edge of city, good quality beer with Bass from the jug worth every penny, not as cheap as some but better than most. Well worth searching out
Recently redecorated with a nice clean bar area, excellent medium sized function room also newly decorated. Good buffet food at functions. Beer very well kept with excellent Bass from the jug, licensee passionate about his pub and clientelle, and although not the cheapest beer its worth that little bit more to be able to drink the stuff, unlike some locals which sell pickling vinegar on draught!!!! Previous comments are a tad negative but just ask the regulars why they keep on going back. Please dont miss this one out try it for yourself.

Average old style town pub not far from the station (but not as close to it as the name would suggest). Had a pint of Pedigree which wa snice enough - forgot about the Bass from a jug thing here. Maybe give it a try when next in town,

Hmmm. Great for Bass out of the jug but two problems can be had here. Firstly, the landlord does tend to keep the door and curtains closed at certain times when open which can cause confusion from people who come to Derby to visit this former GBG pub. He might let you in if he likes the look of you from his CCTV camera! Secondly, the landlord does seem a nice enough chap but he does blow hot and cold on occasions. Worth a visit if you can get in. Don't go matchdays as only regulars will have the door opened for them.

Bass served from the jug (expensive!), paranoid landlord!
Further to my previous post, I ought to add that this is a very expensive place to drink - a half each of Pedigree and Bombardier came in at a criminal 3!
Nice unassuming little boozer in the traditional style; nice unspoilt interior, friendly gaffer etc.
Popped in at the start of a derby scooping crawl having been lured in by the sign outside proudly proclaiming the "Award Winning Cellar and was somehwat disappointed to find only three handpumps, of which two were on and dispensing Marston's Pedigree and Wells & Young Bombardier.
Sampled both draughts and found the condition to be very good, although the beer was let down significantly by dispense at an unacceptably warm temperature ... it might be acceptable for the John Major's of this worl, but frankly not for me!
Overall, a nice looking trad pub which could be a real gem, but if you're looking for really good beer I'd suggest drinking elsewhere - it's not like you're short of options around derby after all!
As always, an exellent pint of Bass(straight from the jug). This is one of the few pubs in Derby that still sreve Bass.

Traditional local, close to the station as you would expect. I usually call in here on my way back to the hotel when staying in Derby. Always has well kept Bass served from a metal jug, usually has Cally Deuchars or XPA or both on tap. Great place to go if Derby County are playing as the landlord doesn't let any dipsticks in and you can have a quiet couple of pints talking with the sensible fans and the regulars. Peoples opinions differ about this pub and the landlord, but I like it.
The Bass from the jug was top notch as always. Black Sheep and Hobgoblin were on handpull - tried Hobgoblin which was crystal clear and delicious. If the door is locked and the pub seems closed in normal opening hours tap on the window and Dave will check you out on the CCTV. If you don't look like a homicidal maniac he might let you in.
Had to knock to get in on a Saturday morning. Only ale on was the Bass from the jug. Black Sheep Bitter, Deuchars IPA and Caledonian XPA all turned around, even when we came in after the game.
Very disappointing for a GBG-listed pub. Only one of the three handpumps was on, and the barmaid aggressively demanded ID the second I walked in (despite being 29 and having no problems anywhere else in years). Won't be going back.
Always go here for the from the jug Bass, anything else is incidental. Proper boozer/landlord, enough said. Watch the opening hours though no all day stuff here..and in my sad opinion much better for it!
The selection of beers for a CAMRA pub was mildly disappointing (just Deuchars IPA and Caledonian XPA) but the XPA was fine and we were made to feel welcome, even if the locked door was rather disconcerting at first, leading us to think it was closed.
Bass straight from the jug - the only reason you need to go here, but a friendly welcome, good atmosphere and a tidy looking bar area all add to the experience. Old fashioned opening hours may frustrate slightly, but make sure you know the times asnd you'll be in heaven.
An interesting old school boozer with an interesting old school guvnor. I just had to try the Bass poured from a jug bought from the cellar, havent seen that in years, damn good it was too. Front bar has a pool table plus fruit and quiz machines for the office crowd and I think there is a rear lounge.
All the other comments are spot on.Good beer and spotlessly clean.
Great locals boozer, if the doors shut its to keep the riff raff out, thats how much Dave thinks of his regulars, knock the door and your in to some fine ales, great friendly atmosphere and a spotlessly clean pub. Best pub in the area a ust for real ale buffs.
We visited this pub twice over the weekend and each time were made so welcome. Owners Dave and Lynne are the perfect hosts, relaxed and happy to spend time having a chat. And the beer! What can we say - Bass in a jug straight from the cellar was probably the best I have ever had (and I used to live in Derby) and the Deuchars IPA was superb. A cracking pub, highly recommended, and we will make a beeline for it when we are next in the area.
Nice local, Dave the landlord always a laugh with his dry humour. Go there a few times and he'll bring you free bar snacks. Usually a few good ales too, plus a pool table. A world away from the shitty Crown and Castle round the corner.
Locals pub but friendly enough with it. Proper old-school boozer, best features the etched windows and good beer.
Fabulous real boozer. The best Caledonian Deuchars I have ever had the pleasure of consuming. Nice atmosphere. Excellent Landlord. A proper old fashioned type pub with the most welcoming and hard working of hosts.
Quite a local type of pub but the beer is good ...
Friendly welcome from the licensee although at the time of our visit (Saturday 2.45 pm.)he was about to close for the afternoon. I would guess, from a visitor's point of view, that this is more of a 'locals' pub. However, the few customers present were eager to chat to us. Bass is served from the jug and beer on draught was Black Sheep Bitter and our choice on the day, Jennings Cumberland.
Fairly small pub. Has some nice beers. A little 'localish' in feel. Great location for the railway station.
