Not the prettiest place on the outside, Ill give you that, but inside is really surprising.
Went on a Friday night. Really good vibe, with live bands. Dont know what someone means on here about it being pricey! I had a Pint of Carlsberg for 1.79 and my friend had a bottle of Rose for 6.99...
Didnt eat, but the food prices were amazing. 2.99 for Sausage and Mash...

It's an alright pub, but if you're not a student you're hardly missing out.
Yeah students only this place, although you're not missing a great deal if you're not one. Decent beer, sports on the tv and bar games are a plus, but it gets rammed of a weekend as you might expect.
Nicer earlier in the evening when you don't have to pay to get in and there aren't too many sweaty, drunk students there. Drinks a bit pricey though.
student only!!!
DO NOT BOTHER! I was refused entry on a quiet Sunday evening by 2 bouncers, despite having 2 forms of student ID and my boyfriend already inside. Their problem was that my cards said 'Royal College' rather than 'University' and they were unable to equate this to me being a student (it wasn't a problem last time I went in.) Their door policy is not 'Student-only', but 'Student who's ID does not challenge the intellectually stunted, power crazy meat-heads on the door.' It's actually really boring inside too.

under special surcumstances i was allowed in i love student pubs unfortunatly im not one and dont live in manchester but compared to most pubs in middlesbrough were i live its pretty good and cheap to which is nice

The last time Iwas in here,Someone from behind the bar raced out to demand a student card & said ta-ra to me...Not Impressed.
A decent pub for students with student friendly prices and wide range of music played and football shown. Just be careful of the doorman as they are wanna be police who take pleasure ruining peoples nights just because they can.
Overall pretty good, Student only. Takes ages to get served whenever there's football on, and don't even think about trying to get a beer in there in Freshers week!
Orange Grove Rules!! It is now the official pub for Dutchies to watch the Holland matches, had some great parties in there, even when they lost they made it look like Holland had won the match. Think they should change the student only rule to student or orange shirt only!!

Now it's summer this pub is no longer NUS-only. It's got a fair amount going for it too, with great prices (everything under two quid), big screen TV and pool tables. We had to pay a quid to get in due to the late license, which was supposed to be until 2am - however at 1am the bar closed and the bouncers immediately moved everyone from their seats to the bar area and told us to finish our drinks. The pub wasn't packed but it was hardly empty either. So I'll recommend it but only go in the daytime or early evening.

i bet i no all ov yous!! haha! some of u will no me thru my nickname! i worked ot orange grove since march 02 but recently moved to royal oak chorlton. no stalkers please! felt really bad on all you (non students) who kept us goin thru the years and made it a top place to work. but the new manager is sound (a geordie too)!! he had to make it NUS coz of the bad name the pub was gettin, it was known as scally pub and it there was loads ov trouble all thetime so company made him make it NUS. however, its not the same without all you locals so hence, me in best local pub eva now! ps, if any of u knew scouse faye..the mad one, shes me house mate now too!

used 2 love this pub but since the students have come back this year they seem 2 have forgotten who kept them going through the summer, and it is now nus only.... manager is fit though... x

Seemed a friendly pub if you don't mind students (I don't) but watch that door charge at night. Decent outdoor area with seats and grassy bit to lounge about on too.
