Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfieldback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Thursday 20th January 2011 12.30 for lunch and drinks with my disabled Mother.
What is a nice pub in looks from the outside is let down by some shabby work on the interior. Carpet looking tired and where we sat (table next to the kitchen entrance) there were dirty hand prints on the wall! Two of the beer taps had been stripped of their logo`s and the hand drier in the mens was broken.
It was quite busy with mainly elderly patrons eager to take in the two for 5 meal deal that the Sizzler chain offers here. Only one guy serving behind the bar, and one girl serving food. Have to say that both members of staff were first class, pleasant and helpful. In fact I tipped the ladd behind the bar. The Guinness was excellent and my Mom was happy with her Stella. But the food.....
Good enough menu, with value for money as regards the afore mentioned 2 for 5 deal. But I fancied something nice and saw that they had a silver section on the menu that proudly proclaimed was for those that want something special. So I ordered what was meant to be two succulent lamb rump steaks with mashed potatoe and seasonal vegetables. What I got was two "2 by "1 slivers of meat, runny mash potatoe and cold vegetables..and they charged me 7.99 for the privilege! Apalling dinner. The ingestion of such slop was not aided by the numerous screams coming from the kitchen that made my Mother and other elderly customers jump. It seems the young chef likes to lark around, judging by the poor excuse of a meal served up to me, the joke was on me!
We left soon after never to return. Poor kitchen doing hard working service staff no justice at all.

Went in this pub around 2 weeks ago on a Wednesday night. It had a decent crowd in there, mainly 30 smethings quietly chatting. It is 'SIzzler' chain pb, so I guess it is fairly typical of most chain pubs these days (Embers, harvester's , Sizzler's etc). The beer range was unspectacular, and anoyingly the place is full of screens (Champions League football was on during this night), and you find yourself looking at the screens instead of your companion.
I hope indepedent pubs eventually beat off these chain pubs. It is up to the Breweeries to keep a bit of character and get behind the local boozers, instaed of selling them off to these chains. Every pub is the same.

I must admit I was dragged here unwillingly by a couple of mates who are regulars to The Sutton Park. Now my first thoughts as I walked in where that this is a locals place, the kind where everyone knows everyone else (which aint a bad thing at all) this was confirmed as my two mates waved and said hello to staff and customers alike. But even with two mates there I felt abit like a man with a falk in a world of soup. Saying that I had a very nice pint of Brew XI which went down a treat, the food was also alot better than I expected but to be honest I can imagine it being abit hit and miss depending on how busy it is and what time you order. Now service, comments below have bought this into question and I would agree with alot of them. Becuase I was with people that knew the staff we got served very quickly but others around us had been waiting alot longer than us and understandably they made it known to the bar staff. But I wouldnt blame it all on the staff as the bar is quite big and there never seems to be enough staff on. The landlord/manager was on the floor glad handing the regulars which I always praise, he was also keeping a good eye on who was using the pub. A young "gentleman", dressed in sports gear and a cap so far back on his head I'm supprised it didnt keep falling off, walked in and head straight to the toilets the landlord picked up on this right away and followed him in, a few seconds later the young "gentleman" walked out closely followed by the landlord. I don't think he wanted to use the tiolets for the intended purpose, enough said really. So The Sutton Park is a nice enough pub with good beer and good food, but dont be supprised if you do feel abit out of place when you first visit.

It's a Sizzler, and all Sizzlers are pretty much the same. If i were to rate it as a Sizzler I'd say it's the best one i've been to, but that's not really saying too much is it? Rarely has real ale, but the Guinness is cheap and drinkable.

I must have visited a different pub to these reviews!! I went into this place on a pub crawl with a mate of mine after I had just moved back to the area. The pub interior is tired and in need of a refurbishment, there is decent space, but the majority of the tables were dirty. The staff were quick to serve locals but slow and rude to us non locals. The beer was alright but then again I only had lager and the prices were ok. The food looked like the standard stuff you get in those sort of pubs but I wouldnt eat there when there are two really good curry houses near by! It was half full and 75% of them were chavs of various ages and people who are old enough to know better. Alright for a drink on the way through but not somewhere I would want to spend too long in.

Quality pub food at reasonable prices.Well populated & justly so in view of the friendly atmosphere created by young & old alike. An excellent local.
|
great beer friendly regular punters - apart from those miserable rude butch lesbians that sit and drink cider all night
