Tafarn y Porth is Caernarfon's branch of Wetherspoon's. Of the 4 pubs I visited in Caernarfon, it had the largest range of ales - Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best, Bass, Ringwood Forty Niner, Wychwood Hobgoblin Gold, Ramsbury Gold, Oakham JHB & Big Bog Jack O'Lantern. It was also the only place with real cider - Old Rosie & Black Dragon. Tafarn y Porth enjoys a great location next to the castle. It was fairly quiet for a 'spoons. Service was quick.

Called in late Monday afternoon, pretty quiet. Ordered two pints of Nelson Powder Monkey (4.4%). When served it was pretty cloudy, it didn't taste too good either. We complained to the member of staff who served us, he seemed loath to do anything about it! In the end he went into the cellar while we stood about like a pair of thirsty punters. He eventually came back and replaced the ale with GK Abbot Ale. Not handled very well ! When we left half an hour later, the naff ale was still available on the pump. Come on Tim, your company are supposed to be the flagship of the pub trade. You need to train your staff better!

I was not very impressed on my visit to this pub. 3 guest ales on.
Gloomy atmosphere not helped by a large group of old men all talking very noisily in Welsh. Definitely would not visit again. Considering Caernarfon and its castle is a world heritage site, this pub should be an awful lot better.

Fairly typical JDW with a large open plan room. Visited Sunday lunch and atmosphere was fine. Staff were efficient and friendly and there was a good selection of festival ales available, although the quality was variable. Large outdoor seating area handy for sunny days.

No problem with regulars or the food.Probably the best real ale in town.

THE SO CALLED DRUNKS IN THE CORNER ARE EITHER RETIRED OR ON THIER PENSIONS, WHO ENJOY A FEW PINTS DURING THE DAY, AND ALLWAYS GIVE A WARM WELCOME TO VISITORS TO THE TOWN. THE STAFF AND MANAGMENT ARE ALLWAYS POLITE AND HELPFULL. AS FOR THE BEER IF YOU HAVE ANY COMPLAINTS TELL THE STAFF AND THEY REPLACE THE PINT WITH ONE OF YOUR CHOICE.

a pokey dive full of old soaks and drunks.the lager tastes like piss.went in here 2 weeks ago after an absence of 2yrs.things havent changed still same faces drunk as usual. avoid at all costs.there are better pubs within the town walls albeit more expensive but at least you dont drink piss.

Cheap,inordinate wait at the bar on a Sturday night,all human life amongst the clientele,toilets are clean.
Watch out for the stairs...allegedly fatal.

Not a bad spoons. Friendly Service,Nice beer patio outside where u can get drowned out by the blo%dy seagulls! 8/10

Decent enough pub! Bit of an old man's pub but drinks are cheap enough so it's a good place to start the night off.
Someone mentioned the stairs were dangerous, well I've been drunk there a few times and never fell!

Nicely kept Weatherspoon's just outside the town walls. Several nice real ale's to choose from including Director's, Abbot Ale, Marston's Pedigree and several well kept guest ales (e.g., Workie Ticket). Staff very helpful and pub offers-in addition to its pub meal specials- the chance to order authentic Welsh dishes for very moderate prices. Outside seating is available as well, so that is a bonus, especially when wanting to enjoy the nice evening at the end of a castle crawl.

Pretty decent pub, especially for a few cheap drinks at the end of a long night drinking. Got a big screen down for the football usually. So a mixture of football and cheap drinks...how can you go wrong?
