Pretty average GK offering - ale was about okay (Truman Scorcher). I suppose it's more a drinker's pub than another eatery though.

£5.20 for a peroni. Couldnt see any exciting real ales on draft but they have a large collection of bottle craft ales.

OK - The only think that stopped it being instantly forgettable was the house mouse that popped out from behind the fire place several times.

If it Pink, i would have called it a night.

This is a smart, stylish revamp of this pub in keeping with the local area and generally seems a committed enterprise.

The food was great as was the draught Wainwright, quite a discovery around these parts. Very good range of ales.

Really rather good.

Open again after being closed down for a short while by the local Council due to a mouse problem.

Sozz. Shouldn't have taken the rip out of the accent: GRUNTING was the word I really meant!

'Real ale' signs on the obviously pubco blackboards were tempting. Wandered in, to be greeted by a wall of footie dullards staring and granting at the big screens. Left.... Don't bother is my advice.

A great place to watch sport on a Sat /Sun a few ales on friendly enough.

More typical Greene King pub. Youngs Original, Special and London Pride were available. The Pride was mediocre at best but the Youngs was just about acceptable. Barman didn't have a clue how to pull a pint though and I was usually left standing for 5 minutes while he struggled to pour 2 beers. Wouldn't rush here but not a huge amount in the area. Not cheap. Food was good though, especially the pie of the day.

Friendly service but guest beer was off. Could be anywhere however, its so bland and lacking in character

Stella was good but otherwise a study in mediocrity...my beautiful girlfriend didn't much appreicate having her arse oogled by uncouth punters at the cigarette machine either.

I used to work in here a long time ago, when it was called the Rat and Parrot and I must say that it hasnt really changed that much except for the staff being much friendlier.
I could be wrong but I think it was also called the George before it became the Rat and Parrot.

It is well known in the area as a great pub for watching the Football (prem +) on a Saturday, but like a lot of people I never use it any other time.

Apparently this used to be called The Rat and Parrot and has had a refurb. Well it worked. I really liked the decor and the atmosphere.Nice pint of Bombadier. I had a beef sandwich which was a little disapointing. When I casualy remarked that I would liked to have had the mustard seperate, the bar girl offered to replace it.I declined but I was impressed by the curtesy of the mainly female staff. Good place to drop in in the afternoons at least

Was dragged in here (kicking and screaming you understand) for a pint with my father after a shopping trip. Packed with a lively but amiable footie-watching crowd and the terrace out the back was very early spring evening pleasant. Could've got very comfortable in here.

first time back to this pub in a while - what a difference. the staff we all extremely friendly and good looking. even though it was fairly busy we were served quickly and the bar maid even managed to have a quick chat to us. atmosphere was spot on with the lights dimmed and candles adding to the traditional pub feel. we were made to feel very welcome and other customers seemed to be enjoying themselves too. only complaint would be the tired looking decor, but the place was clean and the beer was great. will definately be back again. hear they do a good quiz night on mondays

Dull, very dull.

I visited this pub and others in North London in 1985. I travelled from Canada and worked in London for a few months. It was my favorite pub at that time. Hope to visit it next time I come to the UK

I've been to worse pubs but still it's not up to much, I have been there at the weekend and it didn't seem too lively. I went there when it was The Rat And Parrot too and didn't think much of it then and, other than the name change, nothing's really different about it.

I drink at The George on a fortnightly basis and the pub is very clean, has good & friendly service, good food (which is reasonably priced) and there is plenty of room to sit in. The beer garden at the back (with tables and chairs at the front during the summer) makes a nice change as well.

As for the "atmosphere" the pub tends to be sparse during the week, but towards the end of the week or when Premiership football is played, is it very busy and it's in full swing. Note: Turn up at least 45 mins before a game otherwise you may not get a seat!

The pub is usually frequented by the 20-30 somethings and does have its regulars. Its the perfect pub if you want to take friends to and have a chat and relax, but as the groups of customers rarely intermingle with each other, it sometimes loses that feeling of being a pub. This pub is a safe bet for a drink and you know what youre getting.

I'll rate The George 6/10 because it's better to go on a weekend or when a football game is on.

Recently reverted back to its old name: "The George" - can't work out if its still owned by Scottish and Newcastle. Looks and feels pretty much the same - a bit cleaner maybe.

Sorry but this pub is terrible, no atmosphere, dull and not exactly a 'happening' location...don't go unless you have to
Rob - 25 May 2004 21:02
This has got 'Could Do Better' written all over it, I'm afraid. In this kind of location, you need to have landlords/managers who actually make an effort. Whilst there isn't anything horrifically wrong with this place, I can't think of any reasons to recommend it, barring Jason's point about Weng Wah.
Slipperduke - 17 May 2004 12:50
Went on the 4th of march and despite a previous comment about ale,I found all four pump clips reveresed. To run out of all four ales does takea certain ammount of a very special skill.

intersting selection of shooters though and the scottish bar maid was good looking in a dirty sort of way.
Dalston Dave - 5 Mar 2004 12:22
Whilst there is an abundance of pubs in Hampstead, a lot better than this one, it is useful for a swift pint before (or after)the Weng Wah.

Obviously if the "Flask" or the "Duke of Hamilton" swopped places with this pub, it would be ideal!

I, too, would give zero for atmosphere, but 5/10 is awarded because they at least keep cask-conditioned ale in a drinkable condition (just).
lad_newton - 16 Feb 2004 21:00
This is not a great pub, but i found the bar staff friendly, and have enjoyed the odd good night in there. The pub tends to be frequented by staff from the nearby hospital as they are given discounts. The beer here is not so good. After reading Tommy's comment I thank god i've never eaten there.
Sean - 14 Nov 2003 10:16
Well, I really enjoyed that ice cream-like thing, and that guy who memorized our orders was way cool.
jane - 4 Oct 2003 01:38
No real atmosphere at all
Colin - 23 May 2003 11:28
The Rat and Parrot chain represents everything that's wrong with the chain pub and is prime evidence the gradual homogenisation of British culture. I suspect it's the spearhead of a sinister alien invasion.
