Now kind of gentrified and called the Drapers Arms. Has leather sofas, food, ales etc. They had Doom Bar and Purity UBU on draught - neither was up to much but I suppose they are at least trying.

I know Ealing well. Over the years it seems to have become ever more rowdy, especially at weekends. It appears this pub attracts its share of that type, and has changed with the surroundings.
Last time I went it was fair enough, acceptable Guiness, but it was a relatively quiet time.
The Wheatsheaf and Haven Arms are my preferred haunts in the area now: I'll follow the advice of previous posts, I think.

i went to this pub on a date. There were well too many extremely drunk men there and a real feel of aggression from customers. Bar staff pretty rude and prices expensive and quality poor. The band ok for a pub band. The security friendly but well too small to deal with anything starting in regards to fights. Not a place I would ever go to again. I like fun places with nice people having a good time.
This pub COMFORTABLY wins the prize of smelliest toilet in Ealing - the waft when you walk down the stairs to use the gents is vile. Despite complaints to the management, the last time I visied (about a month ago) the smell remains.
The pub itself is another souless chain, throwing out bad beer and insipid food. The only positives for me are the bands that appear at weekends sometimes. Otherwise, I'd give this a huge swerve!!
was served by the rudest irish, yes irish barmaid ever, had a pint that was rubbish
Good spot on Friday and Saturday night if you're not in too much of a serious mood and the bands they have on are loudish and fun. That said when I went down one sunday afternoon to watch a game of irish football it was sidelined by the premership on the big screen with the irish game designated to a small tv up the back. that hurt.
Irish pub that sells terrible guinness, maybe the staff from the Shanakee can come around and show them a thing or two, again must be said an irish pub with no irish in it.....weird.
great pub on a saturday night, some women
good pub with good drink and service but the food is bland. Never came across a traditional irish coddle that has been grilled and then non-traditional colcannon added.......there version of coddle is like bangers and mash
Great Service, and a great place to meet people, but just cos its got an irish name, doesnt mean it has great guinness... Id stick to the lager :)

Great boozer. Enjoy watching the football and at the weekends the music is very good, although repetitive given they have the same two bands all year.
Toilets in dire need of a makeover but still one of my favourite haunts in Ealing.
Went in, reluctantly, for a quick one before heading out again, and glad it was over quickly. Lots of leering middle-aged men hanging by the doors and the sides, or dancing obnoxiously in the middle eyeing up anything that walks past. Football was on the TVs, as well as a live band which came on at 9pm (pretty good band actually, better than the loud, novelty 80s rubbish...). Got a Gin and Tonic (single 3.70) so same O'Neills prices, but I won't be recommending this place in a hurry. Not that this over-crowded, dirty place needs anymore people... plenty of other, more empty pubs in Ealing to visit, so avoid if you can.
I've visited twice recently. Standing area is extremely busy and the elevated seating area has smelt strongly of vomit on both occasions. Friendly enough bunch though (just a shame about the stinky seats)
Aah, had a great night in here. Shame about the little disagreement. It ruined the night
Typical O'neills. The toilets in here have always stunk and now theirs no smoke it does tend to make it's way into the bar.
Dark and brooding inside....ok burgers for lunch...if you need no atmosphere.
It's quite student/young and noisy- pretty much a typical ONeill's. I've never found it rough though- it tends to be the 'reputation' of people walking up that road with its many pubs and deciding it MUST be rough.
Come on... we all know what an ONeill's is don't we? Expecting it to be genuine Irish is like expecting Pizza hut to produce a stonebaked traditional pizza!
It's nothing special but for a younger crowd perhaps with less cash to splash it serves a purpose.
Ealing Pubspy would do well to check out the apocalyptic state of the gents in The North Star up the road. Makes O'Neill's seem like an oasis of calm and dignity.
Is it any good, though? If you're looking for craic, atmosphere, warmth and charm - then you'd best avoid this place. About as "Irish" as a weekend in Bognor Regis.
If, however, you seek to catch the eye of a lady, be sure to stand outside on a Saturday night and one might come your way, during a predictably tedious cat fight...
Hmmm tough one this
OK at lunchtime I guess but needs a deep clean.
Bar staff are friendly and helpful but it is in the warzone area of Ealing on a Friday and Saturday night and I refuse to go anywhere with bouncers on the door
Loos are a disgrace.
When are Pubcos going to realise that people who drink need to use the loo ?
If you can't make the public parts of the premises look their best what is it like behind the counter or (worse) the kitchen ?
Ealing Pubspy is watching you !
This is a pretty much exactly what youd expect from an oneills, Irish Music, sport and Guinness. (Red Guinness was also available). My pint of Carlsberg was tainted Im not sure how you get Carlsberg wrong!
There are much better places to drink in the surrounding area.
Ive mixed feelings about this place.Being of Irish descent, I find the whole in your face irish theme a bit irritating and phony;however there seems to be a good selection of quality European lagers. I agree that the service is variable.
Just dont argue with the bouncers - one of them killed a bloke who was off his face drunk last year.

As everyone puts, it's a nice place to watch sport. Good atmosphere for rugby games. I've had a few nights out here and if you just want a drink and a chat with mates, this places is good.
mikel - 25 Jun 2007 14:45 |
Old fashioned feel to the place and the place does get very packed at weekends, good for football match days.
If you're looking for a place to have a quick pint and watch some sport you could do a lot worse than this. Nothing fancy just a decent pub.
I quite liked O'Neills when I went there in July. Plenty of drink, lots of music and I thought the doormen were quite friendly. Interesting to find a doorman I know from another boozer having a few halves in there.
Used to work there about 6 years ago - and now I remember why I left! Visited recently and nothings changed. Could be a nice place if someone took the time to give a s*** about it.
I was once a regular here, but afer the re-fit it just has nto been the same.
As said before, over priced and all the local chav types flock here and the God awful Band called Crisis really are a Crisis to the ear drums! arrrrgh
Plus the scruffy Aussie Barmaid with the Piercings is so up her own arse its unreal.
Nuff said really we wont be back....
It's an O'Neills pub so it's never going to be great in my mind. I wouldn't recommend going here, even if it's just for a quick pint before moving on, it's dull and the service is unremarkable, while at the weekend it seems to be filled with people trying to get drunk as quickly as possible.
Went there on a quiet weekday evening.
* Overpriced * Ran out of larger on tap and I mean all larger on tap * No barciady * waterloged toilet *waterloged bar * staff kept me waiting 10 mins at the bar, even tho there was no one else waiting, while it took 4 of them to work out how to open small packets of change and put it in the till. * The tall blond manager will only serve white males at the bar she will not serve you if you are black, asian or female, reglardless of how long you have been waiting. * never a place to sit *rubish music * live music is so rubish it might as well be called "fat men with boobs karaoke night"
Great pub for a night out with some mates, or to go to watch the football or Rugby, just stay away from the food, staff great though
what can i say? anyone who's been drinking in ealing for more than 10 years will probably agree it was better when it was the Firkin..........way too crowded, way too smokey, avoid during any major sports events at all costs

I was attacked by a male bouncer 2 years ago for standing in frount of him, baring in mind im female and I had said to the manager about the brute before he attacked me. I didnt go back there for nearly a year, I agree it is fairly expensive but so are most the pubs in ealing.

Visited with some friends and was very impressed by both the atmosphere and the service provided by the bar staff......will definately be going back
It's an O'Neills so you know what you're going to get. Rustic dark wooden furniture, wooden floors and Gaelic scribbling all over the walls. I'd agree with some reviews here that more could be done with the space they have - it seems to have been designed to cram in the most people standing up on a Saturday evening rather than allowing people to sit comfortably mid-week. I've always found it to be faily reasonably priced and the bar staff have always been friendly. I've always enjoyed the food too.
overpriced rude staff generally badly run pub
shocked when they charged me nearly 11 for two drinks , only to find they had charged me for 3 and refused to accept i only ordered 2, absolutly shocking , when confronted was physically thrown out.
wont be going back and neither should you
rubbish, overpriced drinks no seats and loud music.sport on all the time and the kind of people who get angry at football drink there.
Can't wait to see the extraordinarily talented yet young acoustic duo 'RISE' perform here on the 15th September, 13th October and 3rd November 2005, starting from 9PM. They rock my world, let them rock yours!!!!
I have been to this pub a number of times and The dormen are the most polite and respectable in Ealing which I have never had a problem with. The staff are great and the lighting is perfect. Too many high tables and high stalls. too few propper seats waste of space with the barrals. food is great so are the drinks. Prices could be better. table service is always a pluss and there is a small non smoking area, which is always empty or full of smokers. If you like sport they show everything on a big screen. if you don't like football or rugby avoid at all costs when a game is on. If you'r on the pull forget it you can do much better in the local kabab shop, for both male and females. toilets are down stairs which is not good and it says MNA (or something like that) on the female toilet door which can cause problems if you have had a few drinks. This place is a safe and free from trouble most of the time
Not a happy time spent in this pub! No ice at half ten on a Saturday night, which i believe is unacceptable when these bars are charging almost 10 for 2 drinks and can't even provide basic neccesities such as frozen water! When pointing out to manager that i feel this is poor management, get approached by the aforementioned doormen who decide to take our drinks, remove us from the premises and offer us physical violence outside, naturally we declined their invitation, and won't be returning to this badly run establishment1

Friendly pub - staff quick to serve and clear up empties even when it's busy with the footie on the tv.

A lively place. Good for meeting plastered but friendly people.

I hate theme pubs, but as theme pubs go this one is tolerable. Service always good and beer is reasonable. Often have table service which is a plus. Not enough seating though. Despite what some people have said, I've never had a problem with the bouncers. The one time we were turned away (because one of my mates was plastered) they were polite about it.

Preston (short, bald arms folded Geordie) is a top bloke! I'm a doorman and there are enough bad ones but Pres' is one of the lovliest guys you'll meet in any walk of life! Pub is tres bland though... tolerable for watching the footy in a crowd.
Riz - 27 Dec 2003 15:27 |
One of the better pubs in Ealing - nice lighting, decent music, and a choice of 2 entrances if you happen to fall out with one of the bouncers
Andrew - 8 Oct 2003 16:43 |
the small jordie bouncer is a great bloke! great beer and great fruit machines!
Have never been so badly treated in my life. The bouncers are disgraceful and for a supposed Irish pub they should teach their staff how to pull a pint of Guinness. Absolutely Rubbish!!
John - 22 Aug 2003 23:07 |
This place is great fun on a weeknight as opposed to Thur-Sat when it's rammed, you can't get a seat, and short bald men in bomber jackets stand at the doors with their arms folded. Generally quite good though.
Ideal pub to visit if you want to get short changed!
