I have found the Land Lord and Land Lady to be very nice people and I think its time people gave this pub another chance. It has had a rough history, but has really sorted its self out now. Im not sure if they're still having entertainment but they should. The customers are great and the overall feel of the place is generaly great. Go on give it a try.

had a couple of police raids recently.
now advertising the lease for sale.

called this weekend.
the pub has changed hands yet again.
***
There are now no cask ales now on offer.
The saturday evenings live entertainment has stopped, with just loud disco music as a substitute.
I think the meals have also stopped.
The place went from half full to almost empty on the saturday night.
I get the feeling the place is on a downward slide.
***
verdict:
now down to a 3 from me.

called last night. first time for a while since the last manager left.
saturday turn was quite good. coloured guy singing motown and the like.
looks like the manager has kept courage directors on as the regular cask ale.
it was in good condition. currently 2.35/pint.
I think the keg bitters are about 2.20.
good turnout of customers at weekends.

this pub has just changed hands again recently.

remains to be seen how it will go now.

Thanx Stables entertainment, my mate was supposed to be doing his Elvis tribute there on the 19th July, he had a phone call saying he was cancelled because the pub was losing money & the guy who ran it was leaving, my mate has sang there twice before going down brilliantly, but i see there is a full entertainment package & a Robbie Williams tribute is on the night he should have been on, i think he has been cancelled under false pretenses as there is a Elvis tribute on a week before my mate should have been on, the whole thing stinks & artists should not be treated this way.

just another update on the cutler at anston.

the cask ale trials have been going okay. the landlord is keen to promote these.

some of the beers already trialled are ..
morland old speckled hen
shepherd neame spitfire
theakston old peculiar
theakston bitter
bateman xb

the landlord tells me has been trying a guest cask a week, but is now clearing it by mid-week, so is considering two guests.

his next beer due is to be courage directors.

keg bitter is 1.85
cask real ale is 2.10
double spirits are 2.10
he also has some good meal deals on offer.

latest on the cutler at 28-12-07.
this pub has been a keg-only pub for some time.
the new landlord has recently trialled a guest cask of old speckled hen at 2.10 a pint, which he says has gone down quite well. [At this price, how can you say no!].
I believe he is planning to make this ale a regular cask in the near future.

more local support would probably be mutually beneficial, and provide encouragement to widen the range of casks in the future.

The John Smiths keg is still on at 1.85, along with the meals menu stated earlier.

this pub has recently been taken over by a new landlord. beer and food promotions are on at the moment, with john smiths at 1.85/pt, steaks at 3.99 and 7 for 2-for-1 on a selection.
no cask yet, but he says he's considering it.
worth a visit.

pub was re-furbed a few years ago into one very large open plan room.
light, timbered style a bit like brewers fayre, etc.
younger drinkers pub, with big-screen tv and live acts on at weekends.
keg beers only, unfortunately.
food available till late.
small beer garden at rear.
