Granby, Old Stevenageback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Visited this pub at 10pm on a Saturday evening. Given the nature of the clientele I was surprised to find four real ales on handpump - GK IPA, Abbot, Proper Job (St Austell brewery) and Granby Special Ale. I chose the latter which was probably a mistake as it tasted like a slightly rank GK IPA. The customer base consisted mainly of very shouty testosterone-fuelled youths in their early 20s, a few girls in their late teens, and a few older blokes in black T-shirts with tattoos and closely-cropped hair. At one stage a youth and one of the oldies had to be held apart. There was also a group of kids making arses of themselves at the pool table, and some very loud music. The barmaid was rude. If you're a 20 year old knob you'll probably like this pub. Amazed to see other reviewers have given this pub an average 7.7 mark; I've given it a generous 3 and then only because it had real ale.

Real Ale was GK IPA and Abbott. The IPA was perfect, good taste and temperature. The staff seemed quite friendly. The pub in general looked nice and was fairly smart and tidy. I didn't eat but from what I saw the food looked superb!

Yes in need of a refit but the food and service are excellent.

Badly in need of a refurb. Gone non smoking. Prices are still very good though.

Nice pub with has character. Shame about the ale options. Not a fan of Greene King IPA and Tetley is the other option. Nice crowd in here with a good mix of old and young.

I've never seen the 'wireless internet access' maybe I've missed it! This is the nicest 'local' in Stevenage. It has nice decor, wood floors large tables some comfy leather chairs and a long bar. It's good place for relaxing after work. The staff are friendly and the food reasonable priced and always nice, mmm those chunky chips... There's a small garden with a slide/climbing frame/treehouse unit great for the kids, lots of tables and a lovely suntrap. There's a few tables out the front too if you fancy watching the cars...! Frequented by regulars from the surrounding area also nurses/health care staff from the hospital as the pub does discounts for them, it's also an early evening stop off point for builders/plasterers etc. Overall there's a nice atmosphere whatever time of day and whatever day of the week.
