please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

My heart always sinks when you walk inside to be greeted by a contemporary interior (including really high chairs at the modern tables) and youths in black shirts behind the bar.
Two real ales on from Ringwood - rebranded Best and Fortyniner. The best was sponsored by Sarsons and the barman readily admitted it had been on a long time and was near the end of the barrel. Fortyniner tasted better but cos it's not normally my cup of tea I wasn't certain about it. Still, I drank it. That and a G & T cost north of £9! Ridiculous considering what part of the world we were in.

Anyway, majority of customer base seems to be older and aiming for the large restaurant area at the back. Food looked expensive and we decided to leave. I'll give it 4/10. This was our second duff pub on Portland that day.

We ate in an art gallery back down the hill. It had wonderful food with good prices and a sea view! They even let me have a beer from the Co-op on a BYO basis. Pity the art gallery people don't run a pub.

I visited the New Inn over the Christmas and the New Year period, they had a great selection of beers and lagers even Tiger on draught.. Problem was that once I saw that every other lager went out the window, the food was great, loads of choice and very good value.. The belly pork is one of the best I have ever had and it was only 7.95... The atmosphere was always friendly along with good chats with the locals it was a very nice place to visit. New Years eve was great, great band, great buffet and great staff. The staff made us all feel very welcome, the barmaids were always helpful and offered a great view (ha ha).. Thanks New Inn 10 out of 10..!!!

Absolutely lovely Sunday Roast today at The New Inn this afternoon, great atmosphere and real ale superb too. Staff friendly as always. Kids enjoyed the last of the sunshine in the beer garden which allowed us to lounge on the sofa in front of the wood burner. Great!

I'm sure I've got the right place after checking locations, pictures etc but it wasn't the New Inn but was the Queens Head or similar. If I'm right we had a really, really nice meal, good value, and the setting inside was beautiful. Scores ten.

Spent a lovely Sunday afternoon at The New Inn, we had a fantastic Roast Beef Sunday Roast, with homemade gravy and yorkshire pudding... yum! Really nice to see that the real ales were up to scratch with POSH IPA and Doombar which both were excellent. The landlord put hot and cold food on the bar for all the locals and all else to nibble on while watching the footie which was a nice touch.
Very clean and tidy and the refubishment still looks fab. Thanks New Inn x

Went to the Sunday Quiz at The New Inn this week... had a fantastic evening. This quiz was really something different and it was really close. Didn't win the 50 cash prize but had a excellent night. Thanks New Inn.

This pub just gets better and better. The new freeholders have now refurbished the entire pub including beer garden & patio. I would highly recommend the Sunday Roast and restaurant menu too. Great selection of wines, real ales, lagers & ciders. Lovely sunny garden. This pub definately stands out from the rest.

Wonderful visit to The New Inn, again! Staff are always friendly. The pub has recently had extensive refurbishments and has become a freehouse. I was happy to find the prices reflected it's now freehouse status. Real Ale prices started at 2.60 a pint with 2 local ales from DBC. They were also running a drinks promo of 2.29 between 3& 7pm weekdays for John Smiths, Fosters, Strongbow & Small House wine, excellent value for money. The new lunch & grill menu is very well priced with a great selection of home cooked items. I especially liked the wood burning fire & comfy leather sofas.
Definately recommend this pub.

Aug 09 Had a fantastic Sunday Roast here last Sunday. Food is always excellent & staff very friendly. Would recommend this pub, very safe beer garden for kids to play, we enjoyed the real ales & wine. The new management are really improving the place every time we visit.

Decent enough local boozer with 2 real ales on. The Admans Southwold Bitter was OK but not great. Fairly busy pub on a Monday night, and was showing the football. Has the potential to be a great pub. Barman was very welcoming. Closest pub that sells ale to the hotel I was staying (A place with no ale!)

After attempting a Sunday lunch here for a birthday occasion would certainly never go back! We had pre-booked a table for seven for 1.30pm on a Sunday. Wed chosen the New Inn because it was close to my elderly mothers (the birthday girl) and genuinely looks like a nice clean friendly pub.
It was quiet with only two other diners and a table had been very nicely set out for us with wine glasses, paper napkins etc. On the table and others there were the standard glossy menus and also printouts detailing the Sunday lunch this consisted of prices for 2 or 3 courses stating that starter was Homemade soup, lunch was Beef, Pork or Turkey and then a selection of sweets. On going up to the bar to order, I was then told there was no soup. Ok, disappointing but wed manage. I then started to order a couple of Pork and was told there was only beef!
I expressed my views to the barmaid taking the order in a fair manner basically saying that it seemed a bit absurd to have put out printout menus when they didnt have half of what was offered and that it was extremely disappointing especially when we had booked and so they knew we were coming! Nothing was said to us beforehand that certain items were not available, the barmaid gave a kind of sorry but theres nothing I can do apology. Take it or leave it. We shouldve left it, but time was getting on and we were hungry so we went with the beef.
After a wait, the first beef dinners arrived and we could see immediately a severe lack of steam, on tasting the beef and veg were barely warm and the potatoes looked as if theyd been re-cooked from old. We were disgusted, it was almost laughable.
The barmaid offered to reheat the dinners at which with raised eyebrows we stated that we would like our money back. She did this with absolutely no question or apology, it just seemed acceptable and I wonder if they are used to it, I certainly am not surprised they werent busy. There was no contact with the chef and we didnt think it would be of any use anyway.
We were astounded at the service, they knew we were coming and were not prepared, it seemed perfectly acceptable to put out menus that 50% of which could not be catered for and then to serve cold food.
The fact that we were able to get a full refund with no bother showed the lack of pride and confidence in the service. We subsequently tried the Clifton where we were fitted in to a busy time of day and were served a lovely HOT dinner with excellent service.

Potentially a great Pub. Seems to be trying to get to the younger end of the market and not keeping in with the local feel to the place!

Decent pub that accomodates for children. Seemed to be doing a good food trade although I didn't try any myself. A few large TVs dotted around to show the football on. I liked the sign which said no refunds would be given for any offensive song put on the jukebox at 'an inappropriate time of day'!
