Bog standard town pub - didn't like the look of ales so plumped for a San Miguel. Pretty undistinguished worn down kind of place.

The Adnams was OK but hardly Beer Guide quality in a town where I expect a decent standard of their beer. Very standard pub chain fayre otherwise.

Very busy on Saturday evening, with the England-Ireland rugby on a number of screens and a fair few St. Patrick's Day revellers necking the Guinness. If any of them were Irish, they would have been disappointed by the result! Ale was OK but not brilliant. Scampi and chips available for 2.49 and a number of other meals (pies etc.) available for a few pounds more, including a drink from an uninspired list.

This pub will appear in the 2012 Good Beer Guide but my pint of Adnams was not the best I' ve ever had. It is part of a large chain of pubs around the country so presumably has a limited range of beers - again a lack of local brews from smller breweries in the area. Loads of TV sets and standard pub food being churned out in large numbers. Pleasant enough inside and the service was prompt and efficient. It's probably worth a visit but lacks that magic sparkle that other pubs have (probably because this is a busy managed pubco bar). Handy for the shops and bus station and OK - yes I would probably pop in for one beer as a stop between The Fat Cat/Dove Street Inn and the railway station.

Walked in after watching Liverpool beat Chelsea in Pals opposite, was stunned to be told it closed at 6pm. I know Sundays are different, but 6pm?!

The Plough was very welcoming when I visited on a wet afternoon last week. Adnams' Bitter, Spitfire, Everard's Tiger and GK IPA on the taps - the Adnams was in tip-top condition. The staff were friendly, also. When I needed directions to the railway station, the guy behind the bar went to some trouble to give me clear directions and draw me a sketch-map, too.

vistited this pub and thought it was excellent, very wellcoming, great staff, beer and food fantastic, plus they sell red guinness which seems to be hard to get hold of, deffenitly be going again, very happy with it all :-)

The landlord of this pub has serious attitude problems. He seems to consider that any display of happiness is in direct contradiction of the purpose of his pub. Woe betide anyone who feels remotely happy in his proximity as he will take this as a personal affront and an attack on the miserable atmosphere he so desperately attempts to maintain. Avoid at all costs.

Strange creatures, pubs next to bus and train stations, often full of the 'flotsam and jetsam' of the town and the odd shopper or person moving on to somewhere else. I've always been strangely attracted to them and i always seem to end up in this one whenever i'm in Ipswich. Big pub, standard pub fayre and drinks. Not great but not bad.

Went in here on a saturday night recently, ordered 2 pints for my friend and i, paid for them and before we had a chance to take a sip the manager told us we were too drunk and and to get out. Considering we weren't falling over drunk or causing trouble i tried to explain that we just wanted to drink our drinks quietly and go but he wouldnt even listen and then escorted us outside. Its a real shame cause they have some good live bands in here but the pub is spoilt by having a manager on a power trip. Dont go in here if you've had more than 3 pints cause you'll probably be told that you're too drunk (after you've paid for your drinks!)

Tends to have three ales available (London Pride, Adnams Bitter and one other). Serves reasonably priced food. Lots of TV screens for watching sports and also has a pool table.

This place should and could be a cracker, but for some reason it fails to achieve its potential. Good location, good beer, good interior - But.....

nice beer, slow service when called in, beer patio out back, 7/10

I have been disillusioned by this pub, at first glances it is a friendly place where some of the bar staff are warm and welcoming and have an ounce of common sense thenthenyou meet the manager a rude and arrogant man who seems to think that as he is a manager of a pub (not somewhere classy) that he is above everyone else. Their staff never seem to last long whether this is because of the manager, the disgusting toilets or purely the fact that they were fired for not knowing what a pint glass looks like I no notI warn any bar staff looking for work unless you can fly on a magic carpet or broomstick or even live seconds away from the pub then dont expect even a chance or a job application form from the managerbecause and this is a direct quote I will not employ people who need to travel home because it will get to 11 oclock and people will be checking their watch what I decent manager!

This pub was absolutely appalling. it took an hour for our food to arrive, and it arrived in dribs and drabs, so we couldnt eat together. when it did arrive it was cold. one of my friends' meal was forgotton about entirely. the manager couldn't care less about our experience and had a disgusting attitude to customer service. i would never ever go there again, and would recommend that unless you like going somewhere where your custom is unappreciated then this is not the pub for you.

i've seen a good band in there "The hayze" so it was real fun!

Large open pub right next to the bus station. Decent food at a decent price and reasonably cheap beer. A good selection of largers and a couple of decent bitters.
Live music quite often and sports.
