redecorated interior (in a corporate style) Now all more open plan. Two ales on AK and McMullens Winter ale which no one was drinking - never a good sign so went for the Moretti here too - £4.95 a pint here. Wonder why 45p more than over the road. has a couple of pool tables to the rear.

I popped in before a late afternoon visit to the new Everyman cinema and I agree with the earlier reviewer who says it's improved quite a bit, though some work remains to be done. The bar staff were polite and friendly and the decor is clean, if not terribly interesting. In the past I've often found the real ale to be 'off' and even so now there was only one beer of three to be had (an acceptable pint of AK Mild) but I was assured this was temporary and the other two would be back shortly. There are still a few dodgy customers, nervously/intensely checking out whoever who walks in through the door, but I had no bother all the time I was there. I'm still not sure I'd want to hang around after dark but it's OK for a quick pre-cinema pint.

This place has improved quite a bit. It's still a McMullens pub though, so you are never going to get a pint that's more than average at best - not the fault of the people running the place. That said, the ales are very reasonably priced if not very strong. It's good value for money and a large roomy pub with occasional live music - pool tables as well to cater for the nearby Dollis Valley estate crowd. The place used to have a bit of a reputation as a punch-up-parlour, but I've been there a few times over the last year or so and never seen any hint of trouble, although there are some characters in there who look like they'd sell their granny for 50p!
I would imagine the pub's trade has been hit hard now the nearby Barnet Football Club have moved out of the area - the Old Red Lion a few yards away has already closed. Still, it's in a good location on the Great North Road by the cinema, well served by buses and the nearby tube station so if it's well run I don't see why it can't have a decent future - especially if they got serious about putting live bands on regularly and built up it's reputation for music - it could be a good music venue as it's got plenty of room for bands in one half of the pub while the regulars can play pool, etc in the quieter other half.

This is a rough pub. Walked in with my mate, and all heads turned. Clientele kept glancing at us while we there, I suspect because they thought that the only reason 2 smartish gents would walk into a place like this would be to make preparations for a police raid. Many of the drinkers were under-age, and I guess quite a few of them would describe themselves as "travellers". Having said that, the beer (McMullens AK), when we were finally served, was probably the best I had all evening. We left fairly quickly as my mate was getting a bit twitchy about the safety of his car.

Came in here after the game at underhill and i thought I had walked into a scene from Shameless.
The crowd was all around the mid to late 20's and the karaokee had just started, after adjusting my ears I parked myself at the bar and sampled three good pints of McMullan's IPA.
This being my 1st visit I had no idea what to expect but the bar staff where pleasant and the punters were no bother, all in all the pub is pleasant enough.
If I am here again this place would be my choice over The Red Lion.

Went back to the pub again last night, took a couple of friends with me, we had some really tasty food, a couple of jugs of Fosters, and it all came to under 40.00 still can't believe the value of the food, We have decided this is going to be a regular meeting place for us to have a chat and some good quality food, in excellent surrounding, and looked after by some really good staff, 10/10.

WOW what a differnce a year makes, This pub is amazing, when i walked in for the first time in ages, I could not believe the transformation, the decor is great, I got a brilliant welcome, the beer was good and the food great, The menu is unbelieveable until you try it, the portions are great, and being buy one and get one free, I could not believe it. I had rump steak and chips my friend had scampi and chips, all for under 10.00 bargain! Well worth a visit, will be going in again soon.

Nice enough pub, but the last time I visited they told me they didn't have any beer left as they'd sold out! I haven't stopped laughing since. When they DO have beer, it's nice enough, but I don't go now, just in case.

Large roadside pub handy for Barnet F C. The atmosphere was somewhat livened by the presence of some of the Accrington Stanley Ultras, otherwise would have been a pretty dour place. Service was okay but the beer wasn't much cop... but as it was McMulens' I wasn't expecting it to be. Probably the best time to go is when it is populated with visiting football supporters as they usually seem in good spirits and the nearby police presence deters the local riff raff from causing any bother.

Have been going to this pub for a good couple of years now, like most pubs there are good and bad customers, but some of the comments on here are crap, the landlady must have really upset you drex11, dident take your crap i expect, as for sleeping with the customers pure rubbish, you would not have the guts to say it to her, or the man in her life
|
this woman has no idea how to run a pub only how to bed the customers, sometimes 2 different ones on the go.tramp

It took me about 5 minutes to get served in here yesterday as the lone barman decided to collect glasses from the beer garden whilst me and another bloke stood at the bar waiting. I thought it a little strange that only one member of staff was on duty on a bank holiday Monday during the Newcastle v Chelsea game. Once I was finally served the barman was polite.
The three pool tables at the rear of the pub were all surrounded with young drinkers, one of which tried to ride a bike into the pub. The fire exit by the pool tables was open with people hanging in with fags on the go and a few more of them were loitering in the car park smoking.
I found a table right at the back of the beer garden, away from a potty mouthed chav woman, which was nice until the first Northern line train came trundling by about 20 metres from where we were sitting.
All in all not a great experience and I wont be going back.

landlady007........ she already knows what we think of her and her pub full of junkies and shit staff
|
why are people so nasty, I have used the pub for ages, and only ever found the manager and staff, helpful, they work hard, and keep a good pub, If people have nothing nice to say, then say nothing at all, and i thought this site was meant to be about the pub, not a place for personal abuse. if you are brave enough to write it, go tell her what you think, if you have the balls.

she reminds me of DIGBY........... the biggest dog in the world...........

Okay pub for a pre match drink, and a few post match drinks whilst watching Sky, but other than that, no real reason to come in here. The AK isn't kept too well, so beer lovers should stick to the Red Lion.
Never actually seen a fight here, but that's probably because away fans can't come here on match days.

Got a reputation as a 'punch-up parlour' with a Wild West atmosphere - but with the infamous Dollis Valley estate just round the corner what do you expect?
|
Good looking big McMullen's pub in a prime location for the cinema and the football ground. Clean and tidy inside and very comfy. Prices are good and quality and range of drinks are both as good as can be expected. TV for sports. All in all would be a very good pub indeed if it wasn't for a couple of major downsides; namely the bar service and some of the clientele. The place was over-run by yobbish young chav types who spent most of the evening loudly smacking the passports they had brought down to prove that they were of legal drinking age against the table and shouting obscenities at each other. Far from discouraging this, some of the barstaff were so busy fraternising that it took far longer than it should have to get served in an at best quarter full pub. Good barstaff try to calm down drinkers that are clearly annoying other drinkers, they certainly shouldn't be encouraging them to act up even more which one barmaid certainly was. There were also some older punters that should have known better conducting an unneccessarily boisterous game of darts in the corner which added to the human zoo atmosphere. Ultimately it's a good place for one or two quick drinks on the way somewhere else and might be a decent place to spend the evening as long as the more annoying drinkers aren't in and the bar staff look at least half interested.
|
great place for a pre-match pint as they normally have loads of extra staff. Quite roomy too. Haven't tried the food but it looks Ok and sure is cheap. Staff generally friendly and efficient.
|
Since being done up its a great pub, good night out on a Sunday if you like kareoke. Very friendly staff.
