Possibly the oldest pub in diss dating back hundreds of years. Great location with decking over looking the "mere". Service is always great and in the winter the log fire is perfect. I would suggest that the below comment about not serving children isn't about personal preference but is actually down to the pubs licence. I have been served at 6:40 with my children before but did get warned their licence meant that children had to be out by 8pm.

they refused to serve us food and drink yesterday because we had our 13 year old son with us and it was after 7 pm.think they are a bit behind the times!

Had a very bland microwave lasagne with soggy garlic bread, not impressed, staff didn't even seem to notice that I left most of it or ask if anything was wrong, have since been told that it's not unusual as all food is microwave style! Will not be going back!!

Was back in diss today had a family meal here 12 of us All sat on the deck good food lots of beer And wine Such a nice place to sit by the water In a town centre staff were great wish there was A pub like this near me in Luton

The pub itself is lovely. The deck and view of the mere can't be beat. However, if you're looking for cheerful staff...beware. Been here a few times and it's hit or miss. When they're nice, they're great, but when they're not...it just takes the bloom off of an otherwise lovely rose.

This town centre Green King pub was originally known as the Swan and from the outside is a fairly appealing prospect with its lakeside location. The interior however has become a victim of the modern makeover treatment and little of the historic outline of the pub or its character remains. That said, the pub is still pleasant enough and the changes are certainly not as tasteless and unsympathetic as they could have been. The original front bar still has its low beamed ceilings whilst the rear of the pub is more light and airy with a modern brick bar and further down, a conservatory housing a pool table. There is also a beer terrace which makes the most of its lakeside location. Plasma screens at front and back offer the usual sporting necessaries and a fish tank provides an alternative if you prefer watching something a bit less taxing. On the plus side, the usual Green King IPA & Speckled Hen offerings were (when I was there) supplemented by Old Trip which made a pleasant change. Overall I was disappointed with Disss pubs and whilst the Waterfront was far from perfect, it met our needs without us feeling the urge to return.

Had a decent sandwich lunch in here. It's a Greene King pub so don't expect anything outstanding on the ale front. I had a pint of 'Ye Olde Trip', a beer that goes under the name of Hardys & Hansons, a business that GK took over and promptly closed the brewery. It wasn't a bad beer - and my collegue had a pint of GK IPA, which he said was excellent. But I am not a GK fan and normally steer clear of their pubs. I would have given the place a 6, but have not it back to a 5 because of the Greene King connection.
