Tollgate, Romfordback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
We used to go here regularly but the food got worse and worse, waiting times increased and the kitchen was regular not cooking, so we stopped going some months ago. Went last week and the food was good, although a bit of a wait. We decided we'd try it again this week. So we went in yesterday and found out they are only able to cook for a maximum of 4 people. The 5 of us were turned away and went to another pub where they could cope with this massive number! I've never heard of anywhere that sells food that can only manage 4 meals. Presumably if you want a starter, main course and sides they will only serve 1 at a time? Or close the kitchens for the night!?

This pub has the worst food EVER!!!! the meat was not cooked the chips have probably been there for about a week. not only this but i found an ant crawling around my plate. i ovbiously told the landlady and all she sed was well i wont charge you extra for that. we shouldnt have been charged at all! we should have been given a full refund. after this had happened she tried her hardest to not make eye contact with us. very rude and unhelpful! this pub should only be a pub and should not be allowed to serve food! a disgrace!!!!!!

Probably the worst pub in the world. I say 'probably'...I'm just in a nice mood...it's a total sh*t-pit in-fact. MRB are a pretty vile company, and it seems their worst of the worst has been moulded into...The Tollgate Tavern! The landlady, is a moody, hard-faced b*tch, with a boozer's nose. She can never be bothered to actually do something like... WORK though, dear God no! She prefers to roll out the assistant manager and throw her workload onto her and the other staff. The pub is dirty, disgusting, the food is vile!!! and I'd rather drink dishwater than the beer in there.

Nice surroundings, with lully sofas to sit on. Does tend to attract an older crowd in the evenings, the old men with stories of the good old days. But does get its younger crowd to. Never very lively though. Good for a nice quiet drink, with fair prices.
