Had a beer here whilst passing through. The back half of the pub was all geared up to diners ("please wait to be allocated a table") even though they all quickly disappeared, but the beers (Red Mist) were OK.

Hideously overpriced, at least the beer prices are, don't know about the food. Beer kept at the wrong temperatures and served by young students on a gap year without any knowledge of the product they are dispensing. Avoid like the plague unless you are a yummy mummy out for a spot of lunch. Not for the drinker.

Sadly we couldn't eat in the dining part here as they were full on Saturday lunchtime. However we sat up the bar stools where we had a snack. Choose carefully as mine was good value but my wife was more hungry after hers than before. The beer range was pretty good and I was so pleased to see a beer (porter in this case) from a local brewery, Hop Art

Completely changed since the last review. Now a very good gastro-pub serving excellent beers and other drinks. Food is very good but a higher standard and price than a regular pub (waitress service etc) Nice choice of cask ales as well as bottled beer and some craft keg beer. Part of the Red Mist group which includes Duke of Cambridge in Tilford and Queens at Dogmersfield.

So a new landlord is in place, been there two days and Im sitting at the front bar with my young lady. He comes down from who knows where upstairs to speak to his equally new barman, totally ignores his customers, who for all he knows are long standing drinkers who habitually use his boozer, then disappears again. Well fuck you too. I wont be using this pub again while this dickhead is in charge. The previous incumbent was another short term landlord but at least he tried to get to know his customers and to be honest Im sorry to see him go

appears to be a 1950s railway station waiting room in disguise. No soul, very bland and dull. Probably more lively in the evenings with some drinking mates and your best beer goggles on. Shame as it was one of the best pubs in Farnham in the 1990s

Nice proper pub, with good beer & food, and friendly landlord & staff
Well worth a visit

what more do you want from a pub, good beer, room to move, and oh yeah, a blonde buxom barmaid. Very nice.

Lovely, clean pub with a great choice of ale and lager. You always get a nice pint in here so the landlord obviously knows his stuff. The foods good and reasonably priced too!

I was speaking about my sister and her friends, my friends, my family AND myself. None of whom had a good experience. No pub tolerates drunks and I respect that but I know my limits and have in fact been to this pub when I wasn't drinking.
stellagirlx - 17 Dec 2010 18:13
this pub does not tolerate drunk or abusive drinkers and is run for all people to enjoy a decent pint and good food.the previous review login name proberly expains why she was asked to leave.

Very rude staff, always kicking people out for no reason. Do not bother visiting this pub!!!

One of the most underrated pubs in Farnham. The landlord also had the bottle to tell it like it is dealing with the pubco's on the local BBC radio station a few months ago which was very refreshing listening! I like this pub. Good atmosphere and decent interesting selection of beers. Great pub to chill and have a flick through the paper!

Great pub, excellent atmosphere... Friendly staff - the landlord is always happy and jovial. There is a great selection of drinks that are always served to a high standard...
Oh and I must say Barbara cooks a mean steak and ale pie...

sorry , but only just read the november review and as l was present l would like to comment on the fact that she was asked to leave as it was clear that she had been drinking and was raucous and a bit worse for wear. the landlord only became grumpy with her when she asked for a free drink as she had worked there before! As she is a barmaid in another local pub this review is very wrong!

Grumpy Landlord - He's a monster!!!!

I last year participated in the Run Away Bride Comp with 96.4 the eagle and WON....

I am originally from Farnham (25 years) and worked in this pub for a year and a half of my life when Jan & Norm and Howard were running the place - I was rudely told to get out in my Wedding dress and didn't even get a chance to get a drink! All I was trying to do was get some votes for my campaign and spend some MONEY to get a drink!

Refuse point blank to go near this place EVER again!

please note the Wheatsheaf sells chilled filtered water for 50p per glass with ice and lemon and it has a water rates bill, staff service bill, heating and lighting. If you want a glass of water for free please stay at home as the pub is not for you.
mschelsea - 24 Sep 2009 22:34
Had a good night at the Wheatsheaf, six of us went, spent a bit of cash, had a bit of fun. At the end of the night one of us went to the bar and ordered a G&T and a glass of tap water. How much?? Was asked when given the price, for a G&T? Oh no it's 50p for the tap water..... How to make a customer want to come back, take their money all night then charge them 50p for tap water at the end of the night. Ta ta I'm off to the Plough, free table football there.

4 real ales aways available. 7 lagers. massive choice of spirits.good wines, good freshly cooked english pub food, clean toilets and best of all a traditionally grumpy landlord
mschelsea - 22 Feb 2009 19:34
Great pub good choice of beers and home cooked food . Friendly efficient staff recommended.
Jez1963 - 21 Jan 2009 12:30
good choice beers, usually 4 real ales on , good reputation home cooked food
CHRISPA - 9 Nov 2008 16:26
The service was quick, staff seemed friendly. There's a very small outside area at the rear. Good choice of
real ales and traditional english food seemed good. Nice relaxed atmosphere
brown_zzz - 11 Jul 2008 17:06
Good pub with four real ales on handpumps.
If you want a seat: GET THERE EARLY!
It appears to have been recently redecorated, so it is clean and tidy. How long it will stay that way in Farnham is anybody's guess.

30 minutes after ordering meals the Manager asked us what we'd ordered. 10 minutes later it arrived and the mash was a baked potato squashed with skin and all.
Manager apologetic and suggested we came back and we could have a meal at half price. We declined to do so.

dhorn - 7 Oct 2007 09:17
