If nobody can make a go of a pub in such a favourable location, then times must be hard indeed.

Has re opened after a make over. nice and clean beers. landlady seems nice enough. a big improvement.

Just a quick update about The Wheelbarrow - it is currently closed but there appears to be activity there. The conservatory has been knocked down at the back and replaced with a smaller shed like building, and there is newspaper over the windows but work seems to be going on inside. Hopefully someone is give the place a lick of paint, was always a nice little pub but was looking pretty neglected over 2008. Will keep the page updated!

An amazing time at this pub, made the holiday worthwhile. no idea about when the pipes were changed, but the beer tasted great. I went along on the saturday, sunday and monday and though different events, all were great fun. The baguettes tasted great too! friendly staff and the landlady served me always with a smile.

had a super evening in here, everybody friendly and managed a sing song on the karaoke.

I have to say pretty much the same as Molegrub, on passing by there is only ever a couple of people in there and it doesn't look welcoming at all, otherwise I may feel tempted to enter.

How bad a pub is this? I walk past it to get to my local. Most nights there are 6 people max in the bar, all huddled around the bar itself, backs to the door. (This often includes the Landlord & Landlady) - They have live music therer once in a while & you cant get served by the one bloke behind the bar (The Landlord + Landlady never help out, they dont seem to give a toss) Beers crap, not worth a visit.

in one word! Brilliant! Lovely friendly staff! made us feel very welcome

Good atmosphere and excellent Sunday Roasts. The home made banoffee pie is reason to go to The Wheelbarrow and the beer isn't bad either! Pool table with raised eating area and garden at rear of this pub which is one of the oldest in Portsmouth. Good views across Southsea common and over to the Isle of Wight.
