Now called The Wheatsheaf.
|
Hard to say if this place is open or shut at the moment but does not look inviting from the outside.
|
Now re-renamed back to 'The Wheatsheaf'. Has Sky sports and real ale, which was the reason why I was in there. It was busy on a Saturday afternoon and I was about the only person didn't have facial piercings, tattoos and wasn't shouting at the top of my voice. I'll probably never go back there, but the barmaid was friendly, the beer wasn't too expensive for London Pride and it was actually well kept.

Very average pub , would have to be desperate to revisit .
|
Saw a brilliant live band in here on Saturday night by chance called Sounds of the Suburbs they were really good and way above the usual standard of bands playing here. The clientele of the pub however is a little intimidating but seemed ok in the end, we didn't want to leave when we realised how good the band were but otherwise we would not have stayed in here for a drink.
|
Characterless 'working class' pub with only two real ales (Tanglefoot and Bombadier), and food that stops at 7:00 PM. 'No kids' rule doesn't mean that it's a quiet place - probably more a reflection of how rough it gets later on! Whether you''re looking for good ale, food, or just a quiet place to meet up with friends, there are many more suitable pubs in the vicinity.

We looked in the window, we saw the lighting, we saw the punters, we saw the forlorn handpumps amidst a sea of fizz, we heard the music, we turned and left. I haven't rated this place.

Spent a Saturday afternoon in the Winton recently wtching the Rugby. Place was clean, tidy, toilets problem have been resolved and they look clean. Friendly staff. Worth a visit if in the location
|
Surly female member of staff got mardy when I asked to take the sparkler off the Pride before they poured it. Given that there were only 4 other customers I cant quite see what the big huff was about.
Suffice to say I didnt hang around much longer, despite the comfy chairs.

Agree with previous author the toilets were rank. Floor was all wet and stank didnt look very clean either. We had a drink and left. Rest of pub looked okay tho and served quite quickly even tho it was busy. But us girlie's do judge a pub by the loos. If what we see is this bad how bad is the parts we cant. Dont think we'll eat here

Well done the Winton (or the Wheatsheaf as us older punters remember!)for putting on live music every weekend. The music and the toilets won"t always be to everyone"s taste but you are served quickly even on a busy night by a young team behind the jump.Worth a visit if you like some live tunes with your beer

This pub must have the worst toilets in Basingstoke, if not Hampshire, thay are a disgrace, and should be closed down. How can so called publican's let them get in this state, are thay blind with no sense of smell, you should be ashamed.

A great pub to be drunk in! Just far enough away from town to avoid most of the chav teen types; so pretty much a pub full of regulars. A lot of work has gone into improving this place with great success. The food is good, the service is excellent and (most) of the bands are fantastic. Keep up the good work.

Boy, this place has changed. The beers great, staff friendly, fantastic atmosphere and the band were awesome!!! Food was great too - just about managed to plough my way through the 'Ultimate Burger' - a challenge for most. Its a fantastic place to start a pub crawl from at the weekend! Finally getting back to the brilliant venue Basingstoke has missed! Huge thumbs up!

From a dive to a real friendly and safe pub with traditional values in the heart of basingstoke - all in the space of 6 months: All age groups are welcome, even the regulars are friendly (it would be rude not to say so!) Great Bands and music! Fopod not bad either. Best pint of Carling in the area.

The times "they aren't a changing". Needs a good manager. Bring back Dave and Carol.
