Everything has been already said about this place is true.
Rubbish building and rubbish staff.
4/10 (That is only because it is cheap!)

I agree with the last reviewer. Whilst there are generally better pubs than Wetherspoon's in most towns I visit, this was actually my favourite pub in Penzance. It's not much to look at from the outside and I'm never encouraged by the sight of bouncers. But this place was packed, with a usual mix of elderly drinkers, diners and younger people starting their night out. Ales were the standard offering of Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best & Sharp's Doom Bar, with guests - Bay's Topsail, Banks's Red Racer & Grafton Caramel Stout. I'd also finally located ciders other than Old Rosie in Cornwall. It was 1 of only 12 pubs with anything other than the Herefordshire staple. The selection was Thatcher's Traditional, Sandford Orchards Hangy Downs, Polgoon Mount's Bay & Winkleigh Sam's Medium. A very nice pint was consumed with a 50p off CAMRA voucher!

Whenever I am in Penzance I go to this pub. It could never be confused with Ye Olde Cornish Pub ( Captain Poldark etc) But its functional , cheap, good range of beer, and cider.
The locals sit in the garden and have a good laugh and a chat even when they know I am a Cockney
which is a better welcome than I get in some pubs in Cornwall.
Maybe they are not bothered about second homers

I still go in of an occasion, it's not a bad place to be honest. Good selection of beers and cyders and the staff seem to be a bit more focused. Haven't seen any trouble to speak of, one Sat a boy tried it on, door staff straight in and out he went. Simples
Excellent service a decent range of beers,I only met friendly chatty people on my five visits, the service was a bit hit and miss, the manager needs a few older staff as team leaders to show the kids a bit of work ethic.
Took one look at the fighting inside, lastr Saturday and gave it a wide berth.
Typical Spoons, WALK AWAY
Good selection of beers, some dodgy characters but the place is big enough to avoid them. Yes service can be slow due to some idiot wanting coffee or that rubbish there you go. It would help if the manageress actually managed instead of wandering around picking up plates like some overpaid KP. you have staff for that!!!
This is a 'coming soon' JDW. Only Broad Gauge was on as a guest. But @ 1.99` can't really complain. Was here few years ago and place was packed with 'dodgy' caracters. This time, all were probably at sea, aarghhh...
Excellent range of local beers at very competitive prices, pleasant atmosphere and good value snack food. Even the internal pub signs were in both English and Cornish!
pub quiet but took 10 mins to get served due to customers in front wanting coffee ok spoons good pint of abbot
Visited Penzance last week, and popped into this well-appointed pub. Good beer and a good lunchtime trade.
Typical Weather spoons plastic pub, the food is served straight from freezer to microwave or fryer and the beer is cheap. No atmosphere. It was better in it previous life as the Gas Board show room with better service and atmosphere.
last weekend paid two visits food and ale excellent. Compared with the reception you get on spoons in LONDON. This Manager has got it right. All the staff were attentive, smiling and service 20 times faster than McD,s
Same generic Wetherspoon look and layout you get anywhere, but you don't visit a Wetherspoons for this. You visit for the ale line-up. Slightly disappointed the Christmas ale line wasn't on but settled for something else that was quirky. Good price too. Service was fine.
i must get lucky when i come in here as I've always found beer and service reasonable, but when visiting spoons pubs I always expect the worst, so I'm probably easily impressed by reasonable service
could be worst 'spoon' in the country Took 20 minutes to get served even though quite empty. Nowhere to sit as every table was full of used plates glasses and muck. No one to serve behind bar and no one to clear tables What kind of joke is that? Not for me

Hi
the Tremenheere has all the benefits and faults of a typical JD's. It has cheap food and beer on one hand and loads of hardened drinkers on the other. Language can be colourful and the polce seem to visit the place regularly! However, as is often the case, the staff at this pub were superb, friendly and efficient.
it's sad to see JDs declining from being a trend setter amongst pub chains to being an asset that is being driven into the ground.

Not one of Spoon's better efforts. The place inside is on a par with the ugliness of the minging 60's building which houses it, just like the outside, the interior is bland, dark and slightly foreboding.
The choice of guest beers was pretty weak and the quality was distinctly average, the usual Spoons fayre plus two pumps off and another serving a Cornish beer I could find at 25% of the other bars in town. There's a beer garden out back that looks no more appealing than the interior.
I didn't have an issue with the staff, they seemed OK. Place was rammed, so I doubt it'll be going out of business anytime soon.

Named after a 17th century mayor of Penzance, the Tremenheere is one of Wetherspoons typically uninspiring modern outlets with the formulaic, pub by numbers characteristics that the chain seems to think we love. On a Saturday night the charmless atmosphere turns the pub into a bit of a no-go area as Penzances finest come out for a cheap alcohol fix and are herded in like cattle. During the day and midweek, things thankfully appear a tad more peaceful and respectable but the bland, open interior and layout gives it all the atmosphere of drinking in a cinema foyer. I paid a couple of visits during my weeks stay and the first time the choice of guest ales was particularly poor all local Cornish ales that I could easily find elsewhere. Things improved later in the week with a guest Ale all the way from Devon! I know Penzance is half way to America and some beers dont like travelling but something a bit less local would have been nice. That said, I experienced the same problems with the Spoons in Truro and must assume that are some practical reasons behind it. Nevertheless, all things taken into consideration, not exactly one the better Wetherspoons experiences but there are worse places in town. Just.

i think i must be following Gilhalfpint round the country from the lakes to the West country to east anglia
Beer quality was not up to standard, and like a lot of this chain, better lighting would be an improvement.
i hadn't used this place for a couple of years and was a bit hesitant after reading the latest reviews, but decided to give it a try last Thursday night (JDW's curry night)got there about 6.30 and the place was packed,we managed to squeeze 5 0f us round a table got served no trouble,I may have just been very lucky but the food and the ale were both very good,my wife said her stake was as good as the Lamb and Flag up the road but half the price,as I said i may have been lucky but the service and quality was very good, and i'd certainly go back, and as I said the place was packed
no atmosphere, terrible pint of elgoods bitter, average pork baguette the kind of place i would go in to once in a blue moon

Having read the previous reviews of the Tremenheere (which weren't very encouraging), I still paid a couple of visits. My first impression was that it seemed gloomy inside and needed better lighting. The food was warm-ish (but then is Wetherspoons food ever that hot?). My main quibble was the ordering at the bar for the meals and drinks. You could, like me, wait in a queue patiently for ten minutes or so, or, like a couple of pig-headed customers, start your own queue and get served straight away!
wot a complete waste of time every time i get dragged in i leave p****d of. bad beer even worse food
this place is a joke! as being a local its horrible. beer is rubbish the staff are slow and not even polite to you!!!!!!! the food is ok if you like your food frozen or your burgers raw!!!! dont even go in there for a 2 second walk go down the road to the star inn the food, beer is better and the staff are welcoming and very funny..........
Cheap as with all wetherspoons, but pretty average otherwise. Staff tend to be very very slow, and about 6 weeks ago they refused my 20 note because it had been through the wash. I understand them not accepting it, but calling it 'fake' and holding on to it to 'alert the police' I thought was a bit over the top. They told me if it wasn't fake, I would get it back from the police - I still haven't received it....
Spacious, split-level; bang in middle of town; good choice of real beers and ciders; friendly staff.
Everytime I foolishly get dragged in here they screw something up for me. Usually cold food which they make you wait ages for. Go to The Star around the corner for better, cheaper food and beer.

I agree with the previous points - the staff poured a coffee for an elderly woman when I was in there. The lady promptly brought it back and complained. Now, why did the girl serve it if she knew it was cold? The staff really are awful - they can't pull a pint for love nor money, the place has no atmosphere, cheap-looking decor and truly disgusting food. Go somewhere else - in fact, go ANYWHERE else!
like drinking in a airport lounge what a joke, no music, miserable staff. Food is poor and they serve poor beer. Not one member of staff knows how to make a coffee HOT!

Oi! Weverspudz, wot the 'ell? Bloody awful place, wouldn't take my worst enemy here. Needs a personality implant. Would go to the Star instead.

Walk around the corner to Chapel St, there are many more much better pubs than this standard Wetherspoons crap, although it is resonably big and you can find a nice quiet area to sit and avoid the local lads on the piss! 3/10
