Poor range of handpulls for a Wetherspoons. Most of them were devoted to Doom Bar, London Pride, Ruddles Best and Abbot Ale with one handpull each for Brains SA and Reverend James. But they did have a new beer for me, Great Western Brewing's Bristol Belle for just £2.20 which was OK if not my preferred style (being an IPA). Pedants like me may want to know that, like this website, even the Wetherspoons website incorrectly refers to this pub being "the former Van Dyke cinema" when it is actually named the Van Dyck Forum.

there are two ways to improve this place....on the left hand side when u walk in there are a large proportion of the bristol social security scroungers who call in at 9.am so say to get breakfast, which i guess includes pints of old rosie cider so get rid of them and make them do some voluntary work cleaning up the fag ends outside.......second way to improve the place is to ban all chavs then i could have a drink by myself.

It's a Wetherspoons and does what is 'says-on-the-tin'.

Normal spoons - good range, decent quality, microwaved food and never enough staff - enough said

I've only visited during the daytime and have never seen any trouble here. I think this was once a cinema but if not I'm not sure; something similar.

It's not bad - a normal JDW. Pity about the usual smoking dossers (sorry clients) outside the front door.

Beer was well kept and tasted good.

A few beer fest ales on but several blanks with no sign of whats coming-which translates in my book as we don't want you to come back. The Polish Plum beer was good but this is conference league Spoons. But at least its consistent at that level.......

In here last Friday and once again they had no guest ales..........all they had were their usual offerings of Abbot, Green King or Courage Best. I did enquire of one of the bar staff why no guest ales were on and he said they had just gone off (what all of them, and no one could be bothered to change just one barrel...?). To be fair it was quite a busy Friday night and not very nice when a few local(?) pond life louts came in and started a fight with the bouncers who quickly kicked them out. Police were called and they pushed off to another local pub where they also caused trouble later on.
How stupid are these people? they continued to smash their fists against laminated glass panels in the door, hopefully they spent a night at A&E with a broken fist and non functioning brain cell.
Time to give this place a miss until things are sorted out.

Agree with poster below, I've been in here loads and never seen any trouble! It can get a bit moody/rowdy on a Sat night but.. it's a Wetherspoons, what did you expect? All in all, not a bad place to go for a cheap pint or two and/or food (nothing fancy just OK pub grub)

The sport of 'Pegging' has now reached the 'spoons' with Friday and Saturday nights good pegging. The bus stop outside is fair game as well.
The 'spoons' have had a nice selection of 'winter-brews' on pump, recently. Like 'Wickwar' Mr Perretts and Station Porter (very nice, but strong). Oyster stout was nice, but I cannot remember who makes it.

No fighting here on my visit so make what you want of anonymous's review. A normal Spoons, with the extremities of civilisation in attendance-from young girls and lads drinking cheap shots to middle aged people having a pint on the way home from work to old blokes on wheely zimmer frames waiting to pop their clogs. Decent enough range of ales. Clean toilets, though in obvious need of a refurb. Gormless staff in apology mode due to running out of chips!Jesus.

The staff in this pub are clearly overworked, they don't employ enough people to service a pub of this size, - it's not nice to be served by staff that are stressed out, for that reason I no longer go there.

Personally i can't believe this place has got such a high rating. for convenience and price this place is ok. every week it seems there's a fight, and not even a little scuffle. the week before last there was a full blown riot it seemed with people throwing glasses across the pub and staff having to be ushered out into the kitchen, never have i been so afriad for my life. People (not all) seem to go hear looking for trouble and to make the staffs lives miserable. i can guarentee they're not paid enough for what they put up with. The security seems abit tighter on weekends but realistically they need it all night every night, and expensive though it may be, surely Wetherspoons would prefer a good reputation!?
