Called in here a couple of times over the Easter weekend. I felt some of the other comments here were a little harsh. Beer I had was spot on, place was really busy doing a rare trade in food. I'd happily go back.

This one and The Wheatsheaf in Kilmarnock Must be the TWO worst pubs that Wetherspoons have in Scotland Daytime its full of down and outs and the UB40 brigade. By night mainly at the weekends full of drunken NED,s screaming swear words at each other
MY thoughts..........AVOID. USE ONE OF THE REAL PUBS INSTEAD.

An unusual place, converted church. Quite a lot of original features, but quite dingy inside. The Duechers is good and cheap some of the others had run out, so only 3 real ales on at my visit. The staff seemed ok to me, but there again I am not a regular, toilets ok but unusual entrance. Worth a visit, didnt try the food.

Exact same thing happened to me spanner71! Unbelievebale, good to see this shit hole getting the reviews it deserves.

This place is shit but not as bad as the manager (Graeme). I reckon he thinks hes pretty cool running one of the worst establishments in ayr (a terrible social town). But i guess thats cool because its as high as he's ever going to get in life.
Shoot for the stars graeme! Good game.

A former church that's just got no soul . Average/below average food. A bit on the shabby side (and that goes for customer service too....). Go here if you like - cheap food only. Don't go here if you like - to have a few quiet drinks with friends. I made the mistake of having a meal, then about 5 drinks with a friend, then bafflingly got refused service at the bar. ** Responsible drinkers beware!!** Go elsewhere if you value your dignity, time and money.

A Wetherspoon church conversion retaining a number of the original features (a trip to the Gents involves passing under the pulpit). The beer range could me more varied but the Deuchars was drinkable. Usually a trip to a Wetherspoons for me is because there is no alternative but this one is worth a look on it's own merit.

Kirk. You will be assimilated.

Better than average 'Spoon's, but a fair trot from the trains.
|
Typical "Spoons" pub with an interesting walk past the old pulpit to the toilets. The gents. needs more than one hand dryer, as a queue quickly forms!
A pint of Deuchars IPA was served quickly and efficiently. There was not much other real ale on offer!
|
Typical 'Spoons conversation of a great old building. Worth going in to admire this if nothing else. Just watch out for the loos being up past the pulpit!
Beer one of the cheapest in Ayr. However, quality reasonable of the selection of local-ish ales on that we worked our way through. Usual fare for the other beers (lagers etc).
Does tend to get busy, due to the prices. So you can wait for a table/seat. However, the crowd tend to be more mature (ie. over 21!) rather than some on the main local circuit. Only flip side on this is the TVs so you can watch things going on. But with no sound and subtitles you can ignore!

Exactly what you'd expect from a typical Wetherspoon's pub. Fantastic on my last visit because they had a selection of ciders and perry on sale. That'll do me. Gets a bit chilly in the winter because the high ceiling doesn't hold in the heat but, no problem, have a few more and you'll be warm enough. Bar staff can be a bit glum now and again.

First visited over two years ago, before the smoking ban in Scotland. Then I found it to be too smoky, although it seemed ok in other respects. On this visit it was very busy, but we found a empty booth after a couple of minutes. The smoky atmosphere had obviously gone and made for a nice relaxing, airy feel to the place. The range of cask beers was dominated by Houston Brewery beers which, if I had time I would have loved to sample, they also had Bitter & Twisted. The food was the usual JDW fayre, can't complain about that really as you get what you pay for.Well worth a visit if you're in Ayr.

The West Kirk is a place to go if you want a quiet drink. There is no music played in here and to be honest i think it's a dull atmosphere as it used to be a church. Also, if you have had a bit too much to drink its a major pain in the bum to have to walk up 3 flights of stairs to the powder room! Not the best pub in Ayr.

smells of vasaline!! microwaved food etc...the usual wotherspoon crap!!
|
totally unhelpful bar staff. Never an atmosphere and smells funny
