We have lunched in the Wheatsheaf twice now and the food is excellent and very cost effectively priced. Service excellent and very friendly. Beer good and well kept. you have to get in early as it is very popular for all the right reasons.

In midweek lunchtime, a bit grubby from an early start at work. Wonderful welcome, good beer, good food! Recent re-dec I think. Will definately use again (even if not really that close to it). These people are getting it right. Good luck.

Our usual Haunt is the New Inn in Hayse but thought we would try somewhere else for a change, had heard good things about the Wheatsheaf, and we were not dissapointed the Food was sensational and beautifully presented. My Husband, who never and I mean never compliments anywhere, left probably the biggest Tip in his Life. A lovely place also to sit and relax after you eat, a great Wine selection. We will be your new regulars without a doubt.

This is a decent pub now with a good friendly bunch of customers. They are generally a bit older so there is no aggression and everyone seems to enjoy themselves. I only wish they would stop the dreadful 'entertainment' and stick to being a pub where you can have a drink and a chat. The awful singers/DJs etc turn it into a sort of cheap nightclub later in the evening where middle-aged overweight wobblers gyrate cringingly around each other as their inhibitions disappear. This is the point where I would leave.

Anyone who knew this pub of hold will be quite surprise in the change .Now the best pub in West Wickham .With friendly staff a well drawn pint and even free sea food on a Sunday .So if you like seafood get there before .They also hat top entertainments act appearing each Sunday evening and the occasional theme night

Its awaiting a full refurb as its going to be a gastro pub. Its an indictment of The Swan and The Railway that this is probably the best of the three pubs in West Wickham still. The beer is ok, the prices reasonable and while the place is very shabby it will be refurbed shortly...

i appreciate that the exterior and interior need improving, but under new management, with the manager Rob, running a very clean effecient friendly bar.
A small crowd of friendly regulars, which means it is the best pub along the high street for a couple of beers and a chat.

Rough, a dump. Apparently being closed shortly. Im not surprised.

Went in here on a friday night and was shocked to see it so quiet. There were only a handful of people milling around. (I don't know whether this is because of the smking ban. Anyway the beer was flat and the place had no real atmosphere that many people seem to say it has. Dissapointed with pub.

have to agree not a place where you would take your family. attract younsters and undesirables. not a pub for those who want a good time with out being drunk to appreciate it
|
The pub seems friendly enough, although I have to agree with the post about the beer being flat and tasting crap.

I am what you might call a 'regular visitor' to this pub and travel across from Reading where I am now based to visit both the regulars and landlady when ever I can get the time. Some of the comments on this page are uncalled for, some of the visitors we have can get a tad rowdy yes but dont all pubs have the same problem- name one that has never had a bit of trouble. When you give the place a chance you will see the real deal of this place, the regulars are friendly, theres always something to do, whether its a game of pool, darts or a band to sing along to. When you take your next visit, notice the amount of charity fund raising that goes on here and as for our land lady- cause trouble- sure she will get pissed off- wouldnt you if someone got shirty in your house?!?- give this place a chance- it derserves it!!

I'm a regular at the pub and i disagree with the previous comments. The pub has a good atmosphere and normally starts my night off before going to Croydon for a late one. The beer is the Cheapest in West Wickham and tastes no different to other pubs in the area. The Bar staff are polite and friendly, even been out with them on their nights off! The entertainment has its ups and downs but when they do a big event its always a laugh. It's my local even though the Goat and the White Hart are closer and it will stay that way. A great night out without a doubt!

Run by a over-zealous landlady who is against anything bordering on excitement. The beer was warm and flat when i went there and i'm not sure the peanuts were ok as the use-by date had rubbed off them. In other words - i'd rather sit home alone and drink fairy liquid than go here. A beter local alternative is the White Hart where the locals are much friendlier and the beer and selection of bar snacks in infinitely better.

I always go there If i fancy adding that bit of spice to my Saturday evening that the Crown sometime leaves out. Cant beat it for a bit of atmosphere. What spoils it is the Chavs & pikeys that fester there.
|
Not as pikey as other people make out. Not that great either, but you could do worse if you're in West Wickham. Pool tables, quiz machine and lots of screens, and staff up for a laugh too.
|
Went in here a few moths back. Afraid I have to agree with the previous comments. Lots of chav types and few seemed older than 20. Beer was ok I have to say, but standing at the bar meant stares from Neanderthal man and his chums.
Only bright spot was the very pretty lady who came in just before we left.
Shame because it used to be a fair pub when I lived in Wickham
|
This is a pikey pub and you feel like you are in a poor part of Margate. There is a lot of potential here but for many years this has been a charmless, crude pub, whatever the name outside. What do people do if they want to go out for a nice drink in the area ? They go to Beckenham ofcourse.

I used to be a regular visitor to the pub back when it was Ye Olde Anthropologist but it has unfortunately gone downhill recently. The last time i went there was an unmistakable air of aggression about the place and I have seen ambulances outside on a couple of occassions. It's a shame because it is the only pub in West Wickham that i have been to that has a decent beer garden.
