I was lured in by Monday's special offer of half price food. The food was awful, atmosphere worse.

its just so disappointing in here - service is ropey, the place lacks any atmosphere, the layout is poor and the clientele is transient. agree with 264, Putney deperately needs a destination venue - probably not on this site thought.

the slug is like any run of the mill wine bar, what putney needs is a late license american styled blues bar, great music from the like of John lee Hooker BB king and the likes of seasick steve, with live bands playing once a week. beer wine women and song! till the wee hours of the morning! please just some other option than the rubbish Fez club, dont think i have actually met anyone there who really wanted to be there, just it was the only place open after 12:30am!

Utter dump.

This is definitely the smallest Slug and Lettuce Ive been in even though the huge mirror on the back wall makes it look bigger and busier.
The manager was on the phone when I walked in and he got one of the kitchen staff to pour my pint. She had obviously never done it before as there was more froth than liquid. It was topped up, after asking, with an apology which counts for something I suppose.
There are a few tables tucked around the side of the bar with a good view of a plasma screen, but theres not really that much room around there.
I wont be going back as this is one of the poorest S&Ls I have ventured into, and that is saying something.

All the charm of a slug and all the personality of a lettuce. Or maybe even less so!
|
Yes service is terrible - mainly from moody barmaids.
|
Slug & Soulless more like.
Draught ws dodgy on the three visits I've had, the service is sullen and moody and the clientele seem to be the kind of people you'd prefer to avoid.
There's really nothing to recommend about the place. Sadly, Putney seems to be nosediving in terms of decent bars and pubs.

I have to refute what muttsnutts said below. The acoustic night is just a good bit of fun that doesn't take itself seriously. All the guys there are bonafide musicians with an amazing amount of talent. If it is some 'fresh hell' as our budding dante puts it, why is it consistently the busiest bar in Putney on a sunday, with people coming from as far afield as Camden, and even Southend? It's just a good laugh to end the week and ease people into the week ahead. Afterall, everyone hates mondays, but it's less stressful when you've spent the night before enjoying yourself! There are indeed other places that offer acoustic music, and very good they are as well, but remember muttsnutts, this is just a bit of fun, and people enjoy it! Take care, and maybe another visit with this in mind might change your mind? No big shakes if it doesn't though.

Called in here the other Sunday to see what the acoustic session was like.
The words "What fresh Hell is this?" sprang to my lips after about 2 seconds inside.
A bloke doing covers while someone else beatboxes does not an acoustic session make. Sound quality was not good, atmosphere was not there. If you want a proper acoustic night there are better options in Putney. Just take a stroll down the Lower Richmond Road on a Monday night.

full of c0cks most of the time, who perceive it be a destination boozer. Well it is a destination boozer if you're a c0ck or have delusions of funky London being a Slug & Lettuce in Putney High St.
okay during the afternoon or early evening (before 7pm), though.

The only good thing about this place is that all the chav's , media whores and knobs of putney congregate here leaving the the rest of putney free to enjoy...
|
A try hard attempt at being Trendy. Pompous wh0res 'working' the bar are such a pleasure to watch. Do they know how rediculous they are? Hours of entertainment watching them stare into the mirror discussing there 'conquests' of the night before.

Sunday nights accoustic very enjoyable indeed!

a badly laid out establishment i'm afraid
too small and access to the bar is hampered
I miss the old slug & lettuce up the road on the corner near the bridge (now a horrible Litten Tree)

Not bad at all on a Sunday night, Matt on guitar is cool (he's the one that doesnt look like David Becham, thats jamie).
|
Yer same old crappy chain pub. Walk up the road to the Kings Head instead..
TheGP - 29 Nov 2004 14:53 |
Sorry i know every one bangs on about chains, but this is my local. I think the staff are wicked always friendly (Well always is maybe a bit strong, but they are all really nice.) Nice place to for a swifty or a party!

The 'slut and legless' would be more appropriate.

FANTASTIC NIGHT!!! Although the drinks do fall foul of chain pubism the live music on a sunday really got things going!! The atomosphere was really good (i dont know how this one young guy wasnt famous!) for a small town pub on a sunday night this was THE place to go.

This is one of the funnest bars i've been to on a Thursday night. The wine glasses are like gold-fish bowls and the dancing is hilarious.

indie is right. This was much better when it was Parisa. They used to do great food and had a fantastic selection of wine. Slug and Lettuce! give me a break. The only redeming feature of these assembly line pubs is the selection of beers (keg of course) that they carry. They should be banned from residential areas!
Neil - 12 Nov 2003 14:01 |
What used to be a great little Parisa bar/restaurant has fallen foul of the chain-bar trap. Just what Putney and Fulham needed ANOTHER Slug and Lettuce serving uninspired food and overpriced wine. It's like the bar equivalent of MacDonalds.
indie - 14 Oct 2003 12:00 |
I agree Russ. I remember the Parisa, there was a great selection of wines for under a tenner and the food was good too. Shame about the Brick, the only table fottie bar in Putney is now in the truely awful Bar 38/Coast?
Gary - 9 May 2003 11:09 |
Used to be much better when it was Parisa and was the second best pub in Putney after the sadly defunct Brick.

I find it a very warm and welcoming bar. The staff are always smiling and friendly...... shame they don't wear name badges!
