Wig, Swanseaback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Currently offering the following :: Guinesss @£1 per pint....Fosters @ £1 per pint.. Amstel @£1 per pint.......This is a Pub that is seriously struggling to attract any trade at all nowdays. Not quite sure what type of clientelle will be turning up to take advantage of those offers myself.........

Well, this place has had a massive refurb lately by Enterprise Inns, and in all fairness it looks quite nice inside nowdays, but we called in there Friday night on the way home, and the place was totally empty, which was a bit of a shock. So, went over to the Westbourne and it was very busy in there, and a great atmosphere too, so I can't recommend the new " Wig " at all......
Currently closed down, and it looks like this Pub is having another complete make over, not sure if that is going to make any difference though, as it seems to fail to attract any customers, no matter what they do here......
Just changed hands AGAIN after the last Licensee went bust, so we have another new owner here nowdays, serving mainly Portugese Food. Got a funny feeling he won't last long, as this place is becoming a " White Elephant " all round......
Just re-opened recently, with a new Licensee at the helm, I've not been in here, but at least its up and running again. So good luck to the new Licensee.........
Seems like this Pub has now closed down again recently, which doesn't suprise me at all, as its been struggling for a while.......

Pretty average pub to the west of Swansea city centre. 3 ales were on - Landlord, Abbot & Doom Bar. The barmaid was very friendly but was new to the job and seemed a little overawed by it all! Live football was being shown on multiple TVs, plus a big screen in the corner. The interior is fairly characterless with a pool table at the rear.

This was in the last edition of the Good Beer Guide, although I notice it isn't in the latest one. Like the Westbourne across the road, it had loads of handpumps with the clips turned round, and the only beer which was actually on was a deeply dull national brand. Decided not to stick around.

Well, having bumped into a friend who lives quite close to this Pub, I may be able to answer my own question here, as posted previously. Seems like the so called celeberity Chef " Anton " has upped and left this place, and the Menu now just consists of basic Pub Grub, which probably means the " Gastro " menu failed miserably, and now they are offering a " Buy One, Get One Free " offer through the week, to try and attract some trade into this Pub nowdays, not sure for how long the offer is on for though........
Well, having called in here three times in the last 2 weeks with local friends, I have to say its a very pleasant Pub all round, the staff are friendly, the prices are reasonable, and it has a nice atmosphere too. I just cannot understand just why it was EMPTY every afternoon. Nobody eating here, and hardly anyone drinking in here, apart from us. Anybody know why !!!!!.....
Surely this Pub cannot survive much longer with no trade.......

Saw an article in the Post last week about the Wig. Haven't been there since a disappointing meal served by a surly barman 2 years ago, so thought I would stop by and see what they'd done with the place.
I immediately noticed the decor had been updated with the lights dimmed to create a v.relaxed atmosphere. Ordered a small pasta dish which was served by a SMILING barmaid, thought they'd all left Swansea! Pasta was lovely, not like the congealed stodge you often see elsewhere.
Was unable to take advantage of their enticing drinks deals, which I was informed were changed daily, as I had the car, but will definitely be coming back again.
Good luck guys, keep up the good work

Well i have been here for both six nations games this year and i couldnt say a bad thing about the place, we had a two course sunday lunch each for just ten pounds!! all home cooked fresh food, almost as good as the wife's! Also after this we were given table service which was fast and proficient (and really needed in such a busy pub!) these guys may be failing in the weekdays but i only knew it was open as traffic sent me a different way home one night and i seen the signs outside....The redecoration from about a year ago on my last visit really makes the place feel homely, but with todays slew in the pub market im not suprised if after a reopen they will be struggling for a while, but with the way its been when i have been there i think the only way is up for this comfortable pub and restaurant!
For you guys below i think Scombes is alot more accurate on the prices and even there peroni pint is alot cheaper than all the pubs iv been in the area! Ill definately be back for the england game!! One thing is i dont know if its this site as im new on here but the number I booked my table was 01792 464733 not the one listed above.
Well, I hope you are right there Scombes, as we gave the place another try on last Monday, early evening, and it was totally empty in there, and as you know its a BIG Pub to fill, and will indeed take a LOT of marketing to get the place bouncing again. There was an offer for January on the chalkboard outside saying, any Pasta dish for 4:95, between 12-5, and a Sunday Carvery ( no price though ) with Chef Anton too. Lets hope people start taking advantage of these offers soon, as it really IS a nice Pub inside nowdays, and should be a LOT busier than it is..........

Food wise i think they have gone for a more fine dining gastro sort of feel rather than your traditional pub grub and as people still see it as a pub then its going to be a slow start. Having had food here though i do believe they are on to something positive but we shall see. The only way people can say its too expensive is if they have had food there and then decide its not worth it just like everything in life you buy. With regards to xmas eve having talking to the guys they have struggled over xmas as they lost out on alot of xmas bookings having only taken over in november but for the ones thay have had including some groups which have come the previous year there has been nothing but compliments. With xmas out the way they are going to push marketing wise as people are still coming into the pub for the first time since has been refurbished. So i do believe next year will be the one that should get the pub known and bouncing...

In response to the below post, I'm not sure if they have dropped their Drinks prices, since I first posted my comments, as those prices DO seem reasonable, and even cheaper as you say than the surrounding Pubs. However MANY people I have spoken to, think the food menu to be expensive, and have said they probably won't return due to this. In fact four of us called in the Pub on Xmas Eve, and the place was EMPTY, no one eating there, and only a few people in the Bar side of the Pub, in contrast to the Westbourne, which was packed with people eating and drinking, in fact it was SO busy, that we couldn't get served, and came down to the Wig to give it another try, but didn't stay, as it was SO quiet, we strolled up to the Bryn Y Mor instead, which was also packed, as was The Mill opposite, which is the way all Pubs SHOULD be on Xmas Eve. So I wonder just why the Wig was so quiet on Xmas Eve, as its a really nice pub inside nowdays !!!!!.........

sorry Duncan but having been in this place since it has re-opened i have to disagree with you there, the cost of the food represents its value i.e you get what you pay for! try it.....its called research. All food is cooked fresh by thier award winning chef Anton (previously at Antons restaurant on wind street) as you can see im a keen follower. As for your opinion on drinks....2.75 pt Carling, 3.00 Pt Stella, 1.90 vodka + dash, All cask ales 2.65, Bells/Jamesons 2.10 with a double at 3.10. They are just as good as the other pubs in the area if not cheaper, there are only one or two things that they are not as cheap on. Sorry Dunc but they have done their research.....now why dont you try.
Would recommend this place to anyone.
Just re-opened, but have VERY high prices on their food menu. The drinks aren't cheap either, not sure if they have done their research on the surrounding Pubs / Restuarants actually. Not going to be busy, unless they come down to reality, methinks.......
Sadly, this Pub has been closed for a couple of weeks now, with no signs of re-opening soon. Another sign of the times in the Pub trade I suppose......
Called in here today ( Tuesday ) at approx 2pm, as we were in the area, and was VERY suprised to see absolutely nobody at all, inside the place, it was a lovely sunny day though, so we sat outside with our plastic glasses, and left after one drink. Not sure if that is a normal daytime trade here, but with a lovely big beer garden out the front, I would have thought this Pub would be quite popular, in the afternoon sunshine... Obviously not !!!!.....
Found quite a few nice pubs through this site since finding it a few months ago. Had a carvery here.........and was really really suprised to find how well done it was. Would definately eat here again, and it was ok price wise. The carvery staff were really nice, the bar staff a bit miserable looking, but it didnt stop me enjoying my lunch.
Currently advertising meals for 2:95, with a large banner outside. Seems to be a LOT of Pubs around here offering ridiculously low prices on food nowdays. Sign of the times I suppose........
Loads of people queuing up to get in here on a Sunday Morning at 11:55am today, as we drove past. They must be doing something right.......
Seems to suffering lately, due to so many other refurbished Pubs nicking their trade. Plastic glasses given to you to use outside in the Beer Garden does them no favours either though.......
Good food, disappointing carvery though.
Nice pub, decent range of beers on tap, nice atmosphere, and some tables out the front to sit at when the weather's nice. Does some decent food as well.
Best pub in Swansea, by far. Cleaner than a nun's criminal record and always something going on. They have the best rotating selection of ales around, but seem to have slowed down the change around recently.
Not having been to the Wig for years since I left Swansea, stopped off for a pint and some food, sitting outside on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Quick, friendly service, decent price and good food.
A great pub with good food and a decent pint.
I shall drink in there one day.
This is a really good pub. It has recently been refurbished and given a new name. The Wig. Looks good, the landlord keeps a good pint, the atmosphere is a friendly one and the facilities are second to none. also the food is extensive and of a high standard. Check it out.
