Woodville Hotel, Cathaysback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Popped in here after attending a function at the University.
Was here for about an hour (8-9pm), and while it was busy with students they were all a friendly bunch. Background music via TV screens not intrusive. A surprising number of beers on tap - I went for the Brains Smooth which was well kept.
Also ate a burger and chips here. Service was swift and the food delicious. May possibly get 'rammed' later in the evening / weekends, but on my visit was very pleasant.

Only worth going to if you're a student. Badly run. There's always something that's run out. The only reason the manager's not been sacked long ago is because it's in such a good location that it still makes money.

Studenty pub, but that is what you would expect from this area. If you want somewhere for a quiet chat and some fine ales, go elsewhere. If you are an undergrad and want somewhere with fairly cheap beer to meet your mates or to watch the sport on the big screens, it's great. Not somewhere I would go to now, but for those that like that sort of thing, enjoy...

The Woodville has just had a major refurb. They have completely converted the pub and given it more of a 'warm cosy pub' feel rather than the wipe cleanable feel of the last design. It's still part of the scream brand but a bit more grown up. Loads of new lagers and beers on draught like Staropramen, Fosters, Carlsberg Export, Budweisser and local favourite Brains smooth. Shocked to see Frulli the strawberry beer from Belgium and Brothers Pear cider. Fantastic juke box, great beer garden with the occasional BBQ. 2 big screens and loads of tv's. Apparently they are getting a screen for the beer garden so we can all watch the world cup outdoors. A fab new menu with superb deals like beer and burger (Pint of Lager and a burger and chips or curry for 3.50) or the two main meals for 6.50. A great atmosphere all the time. My favourite pub in the whole wide world. Really friendly staff and a safe environment. You can see why this pub is so loved by Cardiff students and like minded locals! They also hire out there basement bar which has a really cool snug area with a singing deer above it's fire place. If you can fill the room it's free!!!

student pub certainly, but there's nothing wrong with that and given cathays is where the students live you'd expect to see 'em
i liked this place, a very decent pint of the black stuff - good food deals.... even tho only the small bar was open was served quickly by the staff and was clear they knew what they were doing....
much better than the "uberpubs" on the high street

Doesn't the fact that it is rammed with students tell you that it is marketed at students. It does what it says on the tin 'It's a Scream!!!' Great ofers on food and drink with a yellow card. BUT above all a SAFE environment where students can feel AT HOME away from home!!! Obviously not for everyone but we love it. As for real ale try the old man pub down the road. Great Beer garden and really friendly staff. Video juke box, 3 Pool Tables, 2 big screens about 10 tv's what more do you want. Our favourite pub in Cathays.

Student-rammed hellhole. Locals made to feel out of place in their own area. Why?? Nearly as bad as the George on Crwys Road junction. Blaring music, no real ale, awful.
